Ohmic Heating–Assisted Extraction of Natural Color Matters from Red Beetroot

Food and Bioprocess Technology, 2021
The main objectives of this investigation were to investigate the combined impact of the ohmic heating–assisted extraction (OHAE) parameters (voltage gradient and frequency) and the green extraction mediums (aqueous, aqueous ethanol, acidified aqueous ethanol) on betalain yield, extraction yield, color quality, energy, and exergy efficiency, and to ...

Beetroot extract@chitosan nanocomposite as a promising approach towards cancer therapy

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
The exceptional antioxidant properties of beetroot (BR) and the cancer antiproliferative effects of chitosan nanoparticles (CS NP) have led to the synthesis of a BR@CS nanocomposite (NC) in this study. The novel BR@CS NC was applied to human epithelial colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco-2), human epithelial ductal breast carcinoma (T-47D), and human ...

Pulsed electric field treatment for solid–liquid extraction of red beetroot pigment

Journal of Food Engineering, 2004
Extractability of red pigment from red beetroot was investigated using pulsed electric field (PEF) treated tissue in a solid-liquid extraction process. Thin disks of the tissue were subjected to PEF at different intensities and, 3-4 min after the treatment, the release of red pigment and ionic species into an isotonic solution was measured in situ ...

Extraction of Betacyanin and Betaxanthin Pigments from Red Beetroots by Chitosan Extracted from Shrimp Wastes

Waste and Biomass Valorization, 2017
Red beetroot as the main source of natural red dye is rich in betalain pigments, which are divided into betacyanins and betaxanthins with antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiviral activity. In this study, chitosan as a deacetylated derivative of chitin, non-toxic, biodegradable and biocompatible polysaccharide, was extracted from shrimp wastes by ...

Extraction, Characterization and Application of Natural Dye Extract from Beetroot (Beta vulgaris) on Cotton Fabric

African Journal of Sciences and Traditional Medicine
Using a Soxhlet system, natural dye was extracted from beetroot (Beta vulgaris) and applied to cotton fabric. With the use of FT-IR, GC-MS, and UV-visible spectroscopy, the extracted dye was analyzed. On the cotton cloth that had been dyed, the properties of scouring, wash fastness, and light fastness were assessed.
