Benzimidazoles in a wormy world
Parasitology Today, 1990The problem of helminth infection is vast by anyone’s reckoning and is of equal interest to the veterinary surgeon and the clinician. To say that helminths are ubiquitous is almost an understatement: as parasites of livestock and humans, they represent the single most important group of infections on the planet, although many separate species are ...

Benzimidazole Derivatives as Kinase Inhibitors
Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2014Benzimidazole is a common kinase inhibitor scaffold and benzimidazole-based compounds interact with enzymes by multiple binding modes. In some cases, the benzimidazole acts as part of the hinge-binding motif, in others it has a scaffolding role without evidence for direct hinge binding. Several of these compounds are ATP-competitive inhibitors and show

Polymorphs of benzimidazole derivatives
Journal of Structural Chemistry, 2017While growing 2-ethylbenzimidazole crystals from methanol, polymorph 1с is obtained. In polymorphs 1а-с, 2-ethylbenzimidazole molecules have a different arrangement in the packing and the position of the ethyl group relative to the benzimidazole plane. At the same time, the character (sequence) of intermolecular N–H…N bonds is maintained.

Degradation of polynaphthoylene benzimidazoles
Polymer Science U.S.S.R., 1981Abstract The thermal, thermohydrolytic and thermooxidative degradation of polynaphthoylene benzimidazoles (PNBI) differing in their chemical structures has been investigated in the temperature interval 250–600°. It is shown that at high temperatures PNBI specimens decompose by a radical mechanism, and that the radical degradation is due to random ...

Mutation Research/Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1972
Abstract Benzimidazole and a number of derivatives have been found to induce forward mutations using l -azetidine carboxylic acid as the selective agent in Salmonella typhimurium . The analysis of the reversion of several different histidine-requiring mutants to histidine autotrophy under the influence of benzimidazole revealed that the mutagenic ...

The parent compound imidazole (1) was first synthesized in 1858 by Debus but imidazole derivatives were known before this, e.g. lophine (2,4,5-triphenylimidazole) (2) was synthesized in 1845 by Laurent.
