Development of chalcones structure‐related to avobenzone: Photoprotection, photostability, and safety evaluation

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Scaffold hopping strategy used to develop chalcones structure‐related to the avobenzone tautomer. Positive aspects of 2‐hydroxychalcones are highlighted. Abstract Chalcones are α,β‐unsaturated ketones with extended π‐conjugation, making them promising scaffolds for the development of organic UV filters.

Optical Durability of Contemporary PV Encapsulants Through Artificial UV Weathering

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 34, Issue 9, Page 1189-1199, September 2026.
Encapsulant choice can be used to mitigate UV‐induced degradation in modern silicon photovoltaic modules, but this strategy is only effective if encapsulants are durable under UV weathering. This study identifies optical changes to 14 commercial encapsulants as a function of UV weathering and identifies that, while changes to material transmittance ...

Tuning Membrane Binding and Lipid Phase Preference of DNA Nanostructures via Synergistic Multi‐Lipidation

open access: yesChemSystemsChem, Volume 8, Issue 5, September 2026.
DNA origami nanostructures functionalized with lipophilic anchors of distinct hydrophobicity reveal synergistic effects on membrane binding and phase‐specific localization. Weak anchors, although insufficient for binding alone, enhance membrane association and govern selective phase partitioning when combined with strong anchors, establishing multi ...

Evaluating the Efficacy of Sunscreen Formulas in Reducing UV Filter Permeation Into the Stratum Corneum via In Vivo Confocal Raman Spectroscopy: Insights and Applications for Practical Suncare Product Design

open access: yesPhotodermatology, Photoimmunology &Photomedicine, Volume 42, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims The transdermal permeation of UV filters has long been a concern among consumers and researchers. Among them, the permeation of small‐molecule UV filters such as homosalate (HMS) (molecular weight < 500 Da) and the regulatory effects of formulation components on its permeation have not been fully investigated.

From o‐Phenylenediamine to Flavin Derivatives: A Potential Prebiotic Carbon Skeleton Expansion With Formaldehyde, Cyanide, and CO2

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 16, 18 August 2026.
A Strecker‐type reaction of aromatic ortho‐diamines with various aldehydes and cyanide assembles the bicyclic amidine core of flavin‐derived heterocycles under mild conditions. Subsequent oxidation, radical or photochemical cyanation, carboxylation with CO2, and CO2‐mediated cyclization build the three‐ring alloxazine scaffold. This sequence provides a

Contribution of One‐Electron Oxidation of Purine and Pyrimidine Bases to the Photo‐ and Radiation‐Induced Damage to Cellular DNA

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 15, 14 August 2026.
One‐electron oxidation of purine and pyrimidine bases of isolated and cellular DNA generates related reactive base radical cations that are converted into final decomposition products through deprotonation and hydration. In the case of guanine, the most susceptible nucleobase to one‐electron oxidants, 8‐hydroxy‐7,8‐dihydroguanyl radical, thus formed by

A Hands‐On Guide to Open‐Shell Calculations in Organic Chemistry: Radical Chemistry, Single Electron Transfer, and Energy Transfer

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 29, 7 August 2026.
Molecules with unpaired electrons, also known as open‐shell systems, are key intermediates in several light‐mediated or metal‐catalyzed transformations in organic chemistry. However, modeling this chemistry by density functional theory calculations is challenging.
