Benzylation of Aromatic Compounds with Different Crystallites of MgO
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2003Magnesium oxide nanocrystals are shown to be selective catalysts for the benzylation of aromatics with benzyl chloride, in the order xylene > toluene >> benzene. Normal polycrystalline MgO is not as effective as the nanomaterials. However, at the highest surface area, normally most reactive MgO samples (aerogel prepared AP-MgO) were poorer catalysts ...

A General Preparation of Polyfunctional Benzylic Zinc Organometallic Compounds
Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2008AbstractA new method for the preparation of highly functionalized benzylic zinc chlorides by the direct insertion of zinc dust into the corresponding benzylic chlorides in the presence of LiCl is described without the formation of homocoupling products (<5 %).

Liquid phase benzylation of aromatic compounds with benzyl alcohol catalyzed by niobium phosphate
Applied Catalysis A: General, 2003The catalytic activity of commercial niobium phosphate was evaluated in the benzylation of aromatic compounds with benzyl alcohol, in liquid phase. The conversion of benzyl alcohol was 100% in the reactions with toluene, ethylbenzene, propylbenzene and p-xylene while the highest selectivity in monobenzyl derived compounds (91%) was achieved with p ...

Benzyl 2,3,4-tri-O-benzyl-β-d-glucopyranosiduronic acid and some related compounds
Carbohydrate Research, 1970A d-glucuronic acid derivative fully protected with hydrogenolyzable groups except at C-6 has been synthesized. Successive tritylation and benzoylation of benzyl β-d-glucopyranoside gave benzyl 2,3,4-tri-O-benzoyl-6-O-trityl-β-d-glucopyranoside (1).

Benzylic hydroxylation of aromatic compounds by P450 BM3
Green Chemistry, 2013Cytochrome P450 BM3 monooxygenase from Bacillus megaterium and its variants are promising catalysts for organic synthesis. Aiming at the identification of variants for selective hydroxylation of functionalised aromatic compounds, the double mutant F87A L188C showed remarkably improved catalytic activity towards a set of tested toluene derivatives.
