Insulin Resistance: An Update on Biochemical and Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Impact on Various Diseases

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Insulin resistance is the biological phenomenon in which the human body's normal response to the metabolic hormone insulin is compromised. Insulin is a regulator of most of the essential metabolic steps in the body that control energy homoeostasis, so dysregulation leads to multiple diverse human diseases including, most prominently, Type 2 ...

Wnt/beta-Catenin Signaling in Glioma

Journal of NeuroImmune Pharmacology, 2012
Extensive data have shown that Wnt/beta-catenin signaling is associated with various disease pathologies, including an important role in tumorigenesis. Here, we review the regulation of Wnt/beta-catenin signaling in glioma, with particular focus on the expression signatures of the main components in Wnt/beta-catenin signaling, the role of key factors ...

Adenoid ameloblastoma harbors beta-catenin mutations

Modern Pathology, 2022
Adenoid ameloblastoma is a very rare benign epithelial odontogenic tumor characterized microscopically by epithelium resembling conventional ameloblastoma, with additional duct-like structures, epithelial whorls, and cribriform architecture. Dentinoid deposits, clusters of clear cells, and ghost-cell keratinization may also be present.

MicroRNA roles in beta-catenin pathway [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2010
Abstractβ-catenin, a key factor in the Wnt signaling pathway, has essential functions in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. Aberrant β-catenin signaling has been linked to various disease pathologies, including an important role in tumorigenesis.

beta-catenin expression in pilomatrixomas. Relationship with beta-catenin gene mutations and comparison with beta-catenin expression in normal hair follicles

British Journal of Dermatology, 2001
beta-catenin functions in signal transduction in the Wnt signalling pathway, which has recently been implicated in hair follicle (HF) morphogenesis. beta-catenin gene mutations affecting exon 3 have been reported in a high percentage of human pilomatrixomas.

p35/cdk5 binds and phosphorylates beta-catenin and regulates beta-catenin/presenilin-1 interaction

European Journal of Neuroscience, 2001
The neuronal cyclin-dependent kinase p35/cdk5 comprises a catalytic subunit (cdk5) and an activator subunit (p35). To identify novel p35/cdk5 substrates, we utilized the yeast two-hybrid system to screen for human p35 binding partners. From one such screen, we identified beta-catenin as an interacting protein.
