Population analysis of the GLB1 gene in South Brazil
Infantile GM1 gangliosidosis is caused by the absence or reduction of lysosomal beta-galactosidase activity. Studies conducted in Brazil have indicated that it is one of the most frequent lysosomal storage disorders in the southern part of the country ...

Segmental aging underlies the development of a Parkinson phenotype in the AS/AGU rat [PDF]
There is a paucity of information on the molecular biology of aging processes in the brain. We have used biomarkers of aging (SA β-Gal, p16Ink4a, Sirt5, Sirt6, and Sirt7) to demonstrate the presence of an accelerated aging phenotype across different ...

This study identifies S100A14 in tumor‐derived exosomes as a key driver of brain metastasis. S100A14 targets PIAS3 in astrocytes, activating STAT3 signaling and promoting immunosuppressive MDSCs recruitment via chemokine secretion. Germacrone, a natural compound, binds S100A14 to disrupt this axis, effectively inhibiting brain metastasis with low ...

Structural genomics analysis of uncharacterized protein families overrepresented in human gut bacteria identifies a novel glycoside hydrolase. [PDF]
BackgroundBacteroides spp. form a significant part of our gut microbiome and are well known for optimized metabolism of diverse polysaccharides. Initial analysis of the archetypal Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron genome identified 172 glycosyl hydrolases and

This work identifies M1 macrophage‐mediated inflammation as a key driver of BMSC senescence and bone microstructural deterioration at the enthesis. A tissue‐adhesive hydrogel delivering senomorphic small extracellular vesicles suppresses this inflammatory‐senescent cascade and enhances BMSC resilience by inhibiting the cGAS‐STING‐NF‐κB pathway.

Expression of the insulin-like growth factor-II/mannose-6-phosphate receptor in multiple human tissues during fetal life and early infancy [PDF]
The insulin like growth factor-II/mannose-6-phosphate (IGF-II/M6P) receptor has been detected in many cells and tissues. In the rat, there is a dramatic developmental regulation of IGF-II/M6P receptor expression, the receptor being high in fetal and ...

Thermostable Beta-Galactosidase from Fungi
Abstract Forty-five strains of molds were screened for beta-galactosidase activity. Strains exhibiting enzyme activity were evaluated for cell yield as well as enzyme units available per liter of the medium, per gram cell dry weight, and per milligram protein in their cell free extracts.

The cover image shows that vascular endothelial cells play an important role in lung metastasis of TNBC. Endothelial Sohlh2 acts as a gatekeeper against TNBC lung metastasis by limiting endothelial activation and tumor cell passage. PRMT5 reduces Sohlh2 stability, weakening this protective barrier.
