A novel magnetically separable pH sensitive surface‐active iron oxide nanoparticles for the removal of antibiotics (tetracycline) from aquatic environments

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Sources and distribution of antibiotic contamints in the environments. Abstract This research examines the application of magnetic iron‐oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (IONPs) for the targeted removal and recovery of tetracycline (TC) from aqueous systems.

Beta-Lactamase Activity in Anaerobic Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1976
A diverse group of anaerobic bacteria representing a spectrum of resistance to β-lactam antibiotics was studied to characterize their β-lactamase activity and relate it to resistance. The Bacteroides fragilis organisms had moderate resistance and produced a cephalosporinase with low activity.

Metal‐Catalyzed Cross‐Coupling for the Synthesis of β‐Lactam Drugs and Related Chemical Probes

open access: yesChemMedChem, EarlyView.
This review focus on the use of transition metal cross‐coupling strategies for the synthesis of beta‐lactam derivatives. This manuscript encompasses the seminal studies for the synthesis of antibiotics up to the current need of accessing specific probes that are crucial for the detection of resistances.

Novel quinazolinones active against multidrug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis: synthesis, antimicrobial evaluation and in silico exploration of PonA1 as a potential target

open access: yesChemMedChem, Accepted Article.
Quinazolinone derivatives have emerged as promising scaffolds in antimicrobial drug discovery. This work focuses on the design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel quinazolinone‐based compounds and predicts their potential to interact with mycobacterial penicillin‐binding proteins (PBPs).

ß-Lactam-ß-lactamase Inhibitor Combination against ESBL-Producing Enterobacteriaceae

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ’Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Shahīd Ṣadūqī Yazd, 2016
In the last decades, Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamases (ESBLs) in gram negative bacilli have appeared as a significant mechanism of resistance to antibiotics. Although resistance to carbapenems is increasing among bacteria, they are still the treatment

Antibacterial Activity of Textiles Functionalized with SilverSil

open access: yesChemNanoMat, Accepted Article.
Natural (cotton) and synthetic (polyester) fabrics functionalized with the SilverSil xerogel powder dispersed in water‐repellent, ecofriendly commercial textile finishings, acquire substantial antibacterial activity against both Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria. Here demonstrated against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, said activity

Impact of Model‐Informed Drug Development on Drug Development Cycle Times and Clinical Trial Cost

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Model‐informed drug development (MIDD) integrates data to quantify benefit/risk informing objective drug discovery and development decisions. An additional critical benefit of MIDD is postulated to be improvement in trial and program efficiencies. While the application of MIDD has grown, there have been no clear examples across programs to demonstrate ...
