Susceptibility of strict and facultative anaerobes Isolated from endodontic infections to metronidazole and beta-lactams

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science, 2007
Endodontic infections are mixed aerobic-anaerobic infections and several microbial groups associated to these pathologies are also involved in orofacial infections. The goal of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility of microorganisms isolated from

Pathogen‐Centric Activation of an Azoreductase‐Responsive Antibody‐Antibiotic Conjugate for the Targeted Eradication of MRSA

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pathogen‐centric antibody‐antibiotic conjugate (AZO‐AAC) releases antibiotics via bacterial azoreductase, independent of host‐lysosomal function. This mechanism achieves nanomolar eradication of both planktonic and intracellular methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Potential involvement of beta-lactamase homologous proteins in resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics in gram-negative bacteria of the ESKAPEE group

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Enzymatic degradation mediated by beta-lactamases constitutes one of the primary mechanisms of resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics in gram-negative bacteria.

The .BETA.-lactamases of genus Bacteroides.

open access: yesThe Journal of Antibiotics, 1983
Two hundred anaerobic isolates from clinical specimens were examined for beta-lactamase production by Nitrocefin methodology. Altogether, 77 strains were beta-lactamase producers. Organisms belonging to Bacteroides melaninogenicus group, i.e., B. intermedius and B.

Impact of Prophylactic Cefepime on Surgical Site Infection and Severe Morbidity in Patients Who Underwent Pancreaticoduodenectomy With Preoperative Biliary Drainage

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Although prophylactic broad‐spectrum antibiotics can reduce postoperative complications after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), the optimal regimen remains uncertain. This study evaluated the impact of prophylactic cefepime (CFPM) on surgical site infection (SSI) and severe morbidity after PD with preoperative biliary drainage.

Analysis of Class 1 Integrons and Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains from Benin City, Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2020
The presence of integrons and antibiotic resistance genes in the genome of Pseudomonas aeruginosa pose a serious problem in the treatment and control of infections caused by this pathogen in hospitals.

Correlation of the effect of beta-lactamase inhibitors on the beta-lactamase in growing cultures of gram-negative bacteria with their effect on the isolated beta-lactamase [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1984
The effectiveness of clavulanic acid, sulbactam, quinacillin sulfone, and the carbapenems MM13902 and MM4550 as inhibitors of TEM-2 beta-lactamase in growing cultures of gram-negative bacteria has been studied. Each of these beta-lactams inhibited the enzyme in intact cells, and the nature of the inhibition correlated with studies on the purified ...

A study on detection of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and comparison of various phenotypic methods of AmpC detection in Pseudomonas aeruginosa from various clinical isolates in a tertiary care teaching hospital

open access: yesMuller Journal of Medical Sciences and Research, 2016
Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the major etiological agents of nosocomial infection. They are difficult to treat as the majority of them exhibit varying degrees of innate resistance.
