The presence of alpha-catenin in the VE-cadherin complex is required for efficient transendothelial migration of leukocytes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biological Sciences, 2009
The majority of the leukocytes cross the endothelial lining of the vessels through cell-cell junctions. The junctional protein Vascular Endothelial (VE)-cadherin is transiently re-distributed from sites of cell-cell contacts during passage of leukocytes.

The APC network regulates the removal of mutated cells from colonic crypts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Self-renewal is essential for multicellular organisms but carries the risk of somatic mutations that can lead to cancer, which is particularly critical for rapidly renewing tissues in a highly mutagenic environment such as the intestinal epithelium ...

Axin-mediated CKI phosphorylation of beta-catenin at Ser 45: a molecular switch for the Wnt pathway.

open access: yesGenes & Development, 2002
The Wnt pathway controls numerous developmental processes via the beta-catenin-TCF/LEF transcription complex. Deregulation of the pathway results in the aberrant accumulation of beta-catenin in the nucleus, often leading to cancer.

Magnetically Guided Mechanoactive Mineralization Scaffolds for Enhanced Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed ‘rebar‐concrete’ inspired scaffold (PGS‐P@MGel) synergizes spontaneous biomineralization with magneto‐mechanical stimulation through PDA@Fe3O4‐embedded hydrogel. This dual biointerface activates Piezo1/β‐catenin/YAP mechanotransduction axis, enhancing BMSCs osteogenesis and angiogenesis simultaneously.

A Global and Local Structure-Based Method for Predicting Binary Protein-Protein Interaction Partners: Proof of Principle and Feasibility [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We report a 3D structure-based method of predicting protein-protein interaction partners. It involves screening for pairs of tetrahedra representing interacting amino acids at the interface of the protein-protein complex, with one tetrahedron on each protomer.

Engineering Topographical Cues to Enhance Neural Regeneration in Spinal Cord Injury: Overcoming Challenges and Advancing Therapies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) poses significant challenges for regeneration due to a series of secondary injury mechanisms. How to use biomaterial approach to target the failed regeneration after SCI remains a critical challenge. This review systematically evaluates current strategies to optimize biomaterial topographies for neurite outgrowth, axonal ...

Phenomenological and microscopic theories for catch bonds [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Lifetimes of bound states of protein complexes or biomolecule folded states typically decrease when subject to mechanical force. However, a plethora of biological systems exhibit the counter-intuitive phenomenon of catch bonding, where non-covalent bonds become stronger under externally applied forces.

Controlled Magnesium Ion Delivery via Mg‐Sputtered Nerve Conduit for Enhancing Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a controllable degradation system for Mg‐based biomaterials using sputtering technology, marking a significant advancement in nerve regeneration research. The Mg‐sputtered nerve conduits demonstrate enhanced biocompatibility, biofunctionality, mechanical compatibility, and precise magnesium release, resulting in improved axonal ...

Target genes of beta-catenin-T cell-factor/lymphoid-enhancer-factor signaling in human colorectal carcinomas.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1999
Mutations in the adenomatous polyposis coli or beta-catenin gene lead to cytosolic accumulation of beta-catenin and, subsequently, to increased transcriptional activity of the beta-catenin-T cell-factor/lymphoid-enhancer-factor complex.

Engineered MSC Aggregates with E/N‐Cadherin and IL‐6 Preconditioning for the Treatment of Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered 3D‐Cad/IL6‐MSC, developed through synergistic hE/N‐cad‐Fc and IL‐6 preconditioning, show remarkable therapeutic potential for systemic sclerosis. These engineered MSC aggregates reduce pathogenic inflammatory cell infiltration and restore immune balance among CD4+ T‐cell populations, offering a promising approach to optimize MSC based ...
