Beta-Catenin and the Survival of Hepatocytes

2017
The Wnt/β-catenin pathway is critical for liver development, differentiation, metabolism, and homeostasis. Aberrations in this pathway have also been identified in many pathophysiological conditions, such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and hepatobiliary neoplasias.

Beta Catenin in Prostate Cancer Apoptosis [PDF]

open access: possible, 2011
Abstract : During this funding period, we performed TRAIL-TZD-mediated apoptotic studies in androgen dependent (LNCaP and 22RV1) and androgen independent (DU145 and PC3) prostate cancer cells and the response was maximal in the LNCaP cells with 50 M TZD and 100ng/ml TRAIL combination.

Beta- and gamma-catenin expression in thyroid carcinomas

The Journal of Pathology, 1998
Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion molecules whose intracellular domain forms a complex with proteins required for their function, called catenins. Down-regulation of cadherins has frequently been detected in many types of human carcinomas, being associated with tumour progression.

IKK and (Beta)-Catenin in Breast Cancer [PDF]

open access: possible, 2002
Abstract : The wnt signaling pathway activates oncogene, beta-catenin. It associates with an APC, GSK-3b and axin complex which targets it for phosphorylation and ubiquitin-mediated degradation. NFkB transcription factor is associated with inhibitory IkBa.

Beta‐catenin and axis formation in planarians

BioEssays, 2009
AbstractIn three recent articles it was shown that β‐catenin is crucial for the establishment and the maintenance of the overall polarity and especially for the character ‘posterior’ in planarians. If the transcription of the β‐catenin gene was silenced by RNA interference, the overall polarity is lost, and in regenerating fragments a posterior ...

Wnt/β-catenin signaling

Cytokine & Growth Factor Reviews, 2000
The Wnt/Wingless signaling transduction pathway plays an important role in both embryonic development and tumorigenesis. beta-Catenin, a key component of the Wnt signaling pathway, interacts with the TCF/LEF family of transcription factors and activates transcription of Wnt target genes.

P53 and Beta-Catenin in Colorectal Cancer Progression

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2003
Recently a possible cross talk about the relationship between p53 and beta-catenin has been suggested by the observation that colorectal cancers accumulating beta-catenin (as a result of APC mutations) also exhibit high frequency p53 mutations. Our aim was to evaluate the pattern of both the proteins and match these with the morphological changes in ...

β-catenin signaling and cancer

BioEssays, 1999
Since its discovery as a protein associated with the cytoplasmic region of E-cadherin, beta-catenin has been shown to perform two apparently unrelated functions: it has a crucial role in cell-cell adhesion in addition to a signaling role as a component of the Wnt/wg pathway.

Role of β-catenin and Active Beta Catenin in Osteosarcoma Progression

2016
Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone malignancy with a high incidence in children and adolescents. Current treatment strategies (surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy) has improved the overall survival rate of patients with primary OS. However, the survival rate of patients with metastatic disease still remains poor.

Signal transduction by β-catenin

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1995
Beta-catenin participates in signal transduction and developmental patterning in Xenopus and Drosophila embryos as a component of the Wnt signaling pathway. Its signaling activity is distinct from its role in cadherin-mediated cell adhesion, and it probably acts either in the cytosol or in the nucleus.
