Quantitation of Phosphorylation Preferences of EGFR Tyrosines in Response to HB‐EGF and EGF

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 7, July 2026.
The study explores the utility of osmotically‐derived plasma membrane vesicles in quantifying the phosphorylation preferences of the EGFR ligand HB‐EGF. It documents improvements in phosphorylation detection and in ligand bias calculations, thus expanding the research toolkit for cell signaling studies.

Cellular Heterogeneity During Arterial Aging

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 7, July 2026.
Graphical abstract showing arterial cell subpopulations and their functional changes during aging. Transcriptomic profiling studies across species identify age‐associated endothelial, smooth muscle, fibroblast, and immune cell states characterized by inflammation, extracellular matrix remodeling, phenotypic switching, and cellular senescence ...

Modulation of Network Plasticity Opens Novel Therapeutic Possibilities in Cancer, Diabetes, and Neurodegeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 12, 27 February 2026.
Plasticity changes of molecular networks form a cellular learning process. Signaling network plasticity promotes cancer, metastasis, and drug resistance development. 55 plasticity‐related cancer drug targets are listed (20 having already approved drugs, 9 investigational drugs, and 26 being drug target candidates).

Protein Kinase C Regulates Meiosis in Mammalian Oocytes

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 48, Issue 1, January 2026.
Protein kinase C (PKC) participates in the regulation of mammalian oocyte meiosis. PKC is involved in meiosis resumption in prophase I and in the stabilization of meiosis I and meiosis II spindles. PKC stimulates the maturation‐promoting factor during fertilization and stabilizes the mitotic spindle during early embryo development. ABSTRACT The protein

The Exon 1 Cys7Gly Polymorphism Within the Betacellulin Gene Is Associated With Type 2 Diabetes in African Americans

open access: yes, 2005
In vitro and in vivo studies suggest a role for betacellulin in islet neogenesis and regeneration. Since abnormalities in β-cell function play a role in the development of type 2 diabetes, a mutation in the betacellulin gene could potentially contribute ...

Natural Products Targeting the EGFR/HER2 Axis in Tumorigenesis: Interpretation of Molecular Mechanisms and Recent Insights Into Synergistic Strategies for Cancer Therapy

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
Schematic overview illustrating the anticancer mechanisms of selected natural products (resveratrol, quercetin, berberine) targeting EGFR and HER2 signaling pathways in tumor cells. These compounds inhibit receptor activation and downstream oncogenic cascades, including PI3K/Akt/mTOR, MAPK/ERK, and STAT3 pathways.

Transplantation of betacellulin-transduced islets improves glucose intolerance in diabetic mice

open access: yes, 2014
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease caused by permanent destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells and requires lifelong exogenous insulin therapy.

Betacellulin inhibits osteogenic differentiation and stimulates proliferation through HIF-1α [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Cellular signaling via epidermal growth factor (EGF) and EGF-like ligands can determine cell fate and behavior. Osteoblasts, which are responsible for forming and mineralizing osteoid, express EGF receptors and alter rates of proliferation and ...

rs2357322 and rs17726078 Contribute to Breast Cancer Risk by Regulating DLX2 Expression

open access: yesThe Breast Journal, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background and Aims Breast cancer is the most abundant cancer type in female. Genome‐wide association study suggests that rs2016394, one SNP at the intron of DLX2 divergent transcript (DLX2-DT), is significantly associated with this disease. Through 1000 genomes project data analysis, it is observed that another three SNPs, rs743605, rs2357322, and ...

Association of a polymorphism in the betacellulin gene with type 1 diabetes mellitus in two populations

open access: yes, 2006
Betacellulin, a member of the epidermal growth factor family, is expressed in fetal and adult pancreas. In vitro and in vivo studies suggest a role for betacellulin in islet neogenesis and regeneration.
