Betatrophin: a hormone that controls pancreatic β cell proliferation.
Replenishing insulin-producing pancreatic β cell mass will benefit both type I and type II diabetics. In adults, pancreatic β cells are generated primarily by self-duplication. We report on a mouse model of insulin resistance that induces dramatic pancreatic β cell proliferation and β cell mass expansion.

Regulators of Mouse and Human Beta Cell Proliferation [PDF]
Diabetes mellitus is an increasingly prevalent metabolic disorder that is estimated to affect over 300 million people by 2025. Common to either type 1 or type 2 diabetes is a progressive inadequacy of functional beta-cell mass.

Betatrophin Fuels β Cell Proliferation: First Step toward Regenerative Therapy? [PDF]
Millions of diabetic patients are waiting for better treatment options, ideally by replenishing the lost or dysfunctional insulin-producing β cell mass. Yi et al. (2013) now identify Betatrophin, a hormone that specifically increases β cell proliferation with promising therapeutic potential.

Increased serum levels of betatrophin in pancreatic cancer-associated diabetes
Long-standing diabetes or glucose intolerance is recognized as a crucial event in the process of pancreatic cancer. Betatrophin, a novel liver-derived hormone, promotes β-cell proliferation and improves glucose intolerance. However, the relationship between betatrophin and PDAC-associated diabetes is not fully understood.

Relationship between betatrophin levels and metabolic parameters in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome [PDF]
To evaluate the status of serum betatrophin levels and potential relations between metabolic parameters and betatrophin levels in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. We included patients newly diagnosed with PCOS in our study.

Evidences for Expression and Location of ANGPTL8 in Human Adipose Tissue [PDF]
The metabolism of triglycerides (TGs) is regulated, among others, by the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) that hydrolyses the TGs on endothelial cells. In turn, LPL is inhibited by the ANGPTLs family of proteins, such as ANGPTL3, 4, and, 8; the latter is the ...
