Sex‐specific metabolic responses to glucagon receptor agonism and modulation of the FGF21‐glucagon axis in female mice

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Therapies targeting the glucagon receptor are being explored for obesity treatment, yet most preclinical studies remain male biased. In this study, Merrild and Johansen et al. show that in diet‐induced obese wild‐type mice a long‐acting glucagon analogue (LA‐Gcg) elicits sexually dimorphic effects on weight loss, food intake ...

Comparative Effectiveness of CagriSegma, Semaglutide, Cagrilintide and Tirzepatide in the Management of Overweight and Obesity: A Network Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes &Metabolism, Volume 9, Issue 4, July 2026.
Tirzepatide 15 mg and cagrilintide–semaglutide (CagriSema) achieve the greatest percent body weight reduction (−17.97% and −17.46%, respectively) and the highest rates of ≥ 20% weight loss versus placebo in this network meta‐analysis of 25 randomized trials.

Molecular Profiling of Genes Associated With Methylphenidate Pathway Therapy and Discovery of New Variants in Amazonian Amerindian Populations

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, Volume 201, Issue 4, Page 291-299, June 2026.
ABSTRACT In Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), methylphenidate is one of the most widely used drugs, in which patient response significantly impacts prognosis. This study aimed to characterize the molecular profile of 10 genes associated with methylphenidate therapy.

5‐Hydroxytryptamine Distribution Alteration in Both Neuron and Synapse of Tg(SOD1*G93A)1gur Mice: A Potential Intervention Candidate Strategy for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study reveals that 5‐hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT) synapses in the spinal cord and 5‐HT neurons in the brainstem of the SOD1‐G93A amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) mouse model are significantly altered, showing a decrease in pre‐symptomatic stages but a marked increase as the disease progresses.

Pancreatic Islet Cell Crosstalk: Insight Into α‐/β‐Cell Compensatory Mechanisms

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 3, June 2026.
α‐cell remodeling compensates for impaired β‐cell function. Intra‐islet glucagon/GLP‐1 signaling is upregulated and becomes essential in prediabetic islets. Flexible receptor engagement reflects functional plasticity in hormonal control of insulin secretion. Created in BioRender. Plecita, L. (2026); https://BioRender.com/pgjjg3m.

Functional Selectivity of Cannabinoid Type 1 G Protein-Coupled Receptor Agonists in Transactivating Glycosylated Receptors on Cancer Cells to Induce Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition Metastatic Phenotype

open access: yesCells
Understanding the role of biased G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) agonism in receptor signaling may provide novel insights into the opposing effects mediated by cannabinoids, particularly in cancer and cancer metastasis.

Protective Role of Ziziphus lotus Fruits and Leaves Extracts Towards BPA‐Associated Testis Toxicity

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Aqueous extracts of Ziziphus lotus fruits and leaves show protective effects towards testis toxicity associated with oral bisphenol A exposure in a rat model, through the likely involvement of antioxidant activity. ABSTRACT Ziziphus lotus L. is used in folk medicine for various ailments.

PAR1 Agonists Stimulate APC-Like Endothelial Cytoprotection and Confer Resistance to Thromboinflammatory Injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Stimulation of protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1) on endothelium by activated protein C (APC) is protective in several animal models of disease, and APC has been used clinically in severe sepsis and wound healing.
