Biología y Biomedicina: un área de mujeres fértiles

open access: yesArbor: Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura, 2002
Un breve recorrido por la incorporación de las mujeres investigadoras al CSIC, demuestra que las mujeres se pierden, de manera alarmante, en los sucesivos escalones de la carrera científica.

Galectins in epithelial-mesenchymal transition: roles and mechanisms contributing to tissue repair, fibrosis and cancer metastasis

open access: yesBiological Research
Galectins are soluble glycan-binding proteins that interact with a wide range of glycoproteins and glycolipids and modulate a broad spectrum of physiological and pathological processes.

The Interplay of Curvature, Geometry, and Topology Shapes Tissue Organisation in Epithelial Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Purely geometric 3D Voronoi models predict the organisation of epithelial shells. The interplay of curvature, geometry, and topology enriches the number of pentagons in shells with lower number of cells. Small MDCK cysts and Mouse embryos match the top polygonal configurations in a compactness‐based ranking derived from the Voronoi model. In conclusion,

fabH deletion increases DHA production in Escherichia coli expressing Pfa genes

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2018
Background Some marine bacteria, such as Moritella marina, produce the nutraceutical docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) thanks to a specific enzymatic complex called Pfa synthase. Escherichia coli heterologously expressing the pfa gene cluster from M.

A novel role of MNT as a negative regulator of REL and the NF-κB pathway

open access: yesOncogenesis, 2021
MNT, a transcription factor of the MXD family, is an important modulator of the oncoprotein MYC. Both MNT and MYC are basic-helix–loop–helix proteins that heterodimerize with MAX in a mutually exclusive manner, and bind to E-boxes within regulatory ...

Scn1a‐mediated developmental regulation of prefrontal cortex plasticity and cognition

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The voltage‐gated sodium channel Nav1.1, encoded by Scn1a, is essential for γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic function, and its alteration is associated with neurological disorders such as Dravet syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. We previously demonstrated that local Nav1.1 dysfunction in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) during ...

p73 as a Tissue Architect

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
The TP73 gene belongs to the p53 family comprised by p53, p63, and p73. In response to physiological and pathological signals these transcription factors regulate multiple molecular pathways which merge in an ensemble of interconnected networks, in which

Biological Effects of Selenium‐Containing Ionic Liquids: Cytotoxicity, Mercury Interaction, and Antiproliferative Activity in Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient that participates in redox regulation and cellular homeostasis. Selenium‐containing ionic liquids (ILsSe) have emerged as hybrid compounds combining the properties of organoselenium molecules with the tunable features of ionic liquids.

Cell population analysis of the adult murine subependymal neurogenic lineage by flow cytometry

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2021
Summary: This protocol provides a flow-cytometry-based procedure to classify and isolate all cells of the adult rodent subependymal zone (SEZ) neurogenic lineage, without the need for reporter mice, into different cell populations, including three neural

A Triangulenum‐Based Biosensor Platform for Mapping Kinase Activity in T Cells

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Novel peptide biosensors based on long‐lifetime triangulenium dyes are developed for the real‐time, non‐invasive mapping of Akt1 and Src kinase activities in living cells. Utilizing FLIM microscopy, these highly specific, biocompatible probes overcome cellular autofluorescence.
