Biosynthesis of Biopterin by Rat Brain
Journal of Neurochemistry, 1982Abstract: A method for the determination of [14C]biopterin biosynthesis from [14C]guanosine‐5′‐triphosphate by a desalted preparation from rat striatum, based on sequential reverse‐phase and cation‐exchange high performance liquid chromatography, is described.

Quantitation of total biopterin and tetrahydrobiopterin in plasma
Clinical Biochemistry, 2007To develop a reliable method for the determination of tetrahydrobiopterin and total biopterin in plasma.Modifications include blood collection and handling procedures.Collection of blood in the presence of 0.1% (w/v) dithiothreitol and waiting for 2-3 h before centrifugation are optimal for adequate quantitation of both pterins. For a reliable ...

Urinary levels of neopterin and biopterin in Autism
Neuroscience Letters, 1998The pterins, neopterin and biopterin, occur naturally in body fluids including urine. It is well established that increased neopterin levels are associated with activation of the cellular immune system and that reduced biopterins are essential for neurotransmitter synthesis.

Biosynthesis of biopterin in Ascaris lumbricoides suum
Biochimica Et Biophysica Acta - General Subjects, 1980In in vivo experiments, radioactivity from [U-14C]GTP was incorporated into biopterin, and, in fact, all carbon atoms of biopterin synthesized in Ascaris lumbricoides suum originated from GTP. Biopterin was also biosynthesized in homogenates of tissue fluid and muscles of Ascaris lumbricoides suum.

AbstractThe synthesis of (‐)‐biopterin (1) was accomplished by employing (1S,2S)‐1‐(2‐furyl)‐2‐(trityloxy)‐1‐propanol (6), derived from ethyl (S)‐lactate, as building block for the side chain.

Intraperitoneally injected [(14)C]biopterin (B), dihydrobiopterin (BH2), and tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) penetrated the brain rapidly, but in amounts sufficient to represent only a minor source of supply. Unlike isobiopterin, B was rapidly reduced to BH2 in brain.

Pteridine diuretics as biopterin antagonists
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1974Abstract A series of pteridines having varying degrees of diuretic activity were tested for their effects on the growth of the pteridine-requiring flagellate, Crithidia fasciculata . Inhibition of growth was correlated with diuretic activity insofar as compounds devoid of diuretic effects were uninhibitory and active inhibitors were also good to ...
