Mechanisms of arsenic biotransformation
Toxicology, 2002Inorganic arsenic, a documented human carcinogen, is methylated in the body by alternating reduction of pentavalent arsenic to trivalent and addition of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine. Glutathione, and possibly other thiols, serve as reducing agents.

1982
Interindividual differences in response to drug administration can often be related to differences in metabolic rates and/or pharmacological activity and quantitiy of each metabolite produced. Adverse effects observed in the post-operative phase may be due to the extent of accumulation of intravenous anaesthetics, which depends exclusively on their ...

The Biotransformation of Bitumen
2016Three microbial strains (Bacillus lentus, Ganoderma applanatum, Pseudomonas fluorescens) were evaluated for their capacity to biotransform bitumen in suspended and porous media. Bitumen is characterized by high viscosity and low mobility at reservoir conditions, and high toxicity.

Biosynthesis and Biotransformation
2010Plant secondary metabolites, the so-called natural products, are used as flavors, food additives, and pharmaceuticals. Since complex natural products are not economically produced by total chemical synthesis except for some small molecules, most of the useful metabolites are still obtained from wild or cultivated plant resources.
