STUDI METODE-METODE EKSTRAKSI PEWARNA MAKANAN ALAMI ANNATTO DARI BIJI KESUMBA (Bixa orellana)

open access: yesReaktor, 2012
Annatto is natural food colorant extracted from Bixa orellana seeds. The main constituent of annatto is bixin, a carotenoid having carboxylic acid groups at both ends of its molecular chain and one of these is methyl-esterified.

Protective effect of bixin on carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in rats

open access: yesBiological Research, 2014
BACKGROUND: The liver is an important organ for its ability to transform xenobiotics, making the liver tissue a prime target for toxic substances. The carotenoid bixin present in annatto is an antioxidant that can protect cells and tissues against the ...

Characterisation and stability evaluation of bixin nanocapsules

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2013
The aim of this study was to produce bixin nanocapsules by the interfacial deposition of preformed poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL). PCL (250 mg), capric/caprylic triglyceride (400 μL), sorbitan monostearate (95 mg) and bixin were dissolved in a mixture of acetone (60 mL) and ethanol (7.5 mL) under stirring (40 °C).

Application of Bixin Extract from Bixa orellana L. Seeds as a Natural Colorant in Compact Powder Eyeshadow Formulation [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Annatto seeds (Bixa orellana L.) contain natural pigments, namely bixin and norbixin. Bixin can produce a reddish-orange color, commonly used as a natural colorant in food, textiles, and cosmetics.

Improvement of Bixin Carotenoid Stability through the Formation of M–bixin (M = Mg2+, Ca2+, Zn2+, and Se4+) Complex Compounds Based on Photodegradation Kinetic Studies

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Chemistry
Bixin is used in wide-ranging food applications but is susceptible to degradation by many factors, including light. This research aims to increase bixin photostability through metal complexation. Bixin was complexed with Mg2+, Ca2+, Zn2+, and Se4+.

Understanding Solvent/Bixin Interactions by Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2020
In this work, Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been used in order to understand the nature of the interaction between the carotenoid bixin and organic solvents with dielectric constant varying from ca. 2 (toluene) to ca. 47 (dimethyl sulfoxide). Raman shifts registered for the main carotenoid marker band, the C=C
