Biological invasions: a global assessment of geographic distributions, long‐term trends, and data gaps

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 6, Page 2542-2583, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions are one of the major drivers of biodiversity decline and have been shown to have far‐reaching consequences for society and the economy. Preventing the introduction and spread of alien species represents the most effective solution to reducing their impacts on nature and human well‐being.

Shifts in soil fungal communities in Tuber melanosporum plantations over a 20-year transition from agriculture fields to oak woodlands

open access: yesForest Systems, 2016
Aim of study: To explore the diversity of soil fungi found in black truffle (Tuber melanosporum) plantations following the introduction of the mycorrhizal-colonized host tree, (Quercus ilex), through the development of the brûlé and production of mature ...

Cocoa waste valorization: a review and sustainability analysis of green technologies

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, Volume 19, Issue 6, Page 2680-2699, November/December 2025.
Abstract Cocoa residues – notably cocoa pod husks and cocoa bean shells – can be valorized for biocompound recovery, bioenergy production, and waste reduction. This review analyzed 1115 publications related to this field to identify key research trends. Interest is increasing in compounds such as theobromine, bioactive substances, adsorption processes,

Physiological aspects of Corylus avellana associated with the French black truffle fungus Tuber melanosporum and the consequence for commercial production of black truffles in Western Australia

open access: yes, 2005
The black truffle (Tuber melanosporum Vitt.) industry in Australia is relatively new and has enormous potential but some truffieres (truffle farms) fail to meet anticipated harvest projections.

Cultivation of black truffle to promote reforestation and land-use stability

open access: yes, 2006
Cultivation of black truffle, Tuber melanosporum Vitt., has become an important agricultural alternative in rural Mediterranean regions due to its success in relatively harsh conditions, its high market value and diminishing production in natural areas ...

Mycophagy in Primates of the Issa Valley, Tanzania

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
Mushroom consumption in Issa Valley primates varies by species and availability. Chimpanzees and red‐tailed monkeys use mushrooms as a fallback food, while baboons prefer them year‐round. Our study highlights the ecological and evolutionary significance of mycophagy in primates.

Uric Acid‐Lowering and Anti‐Hyperuricemia Effects of Plant‐Based Nutraceuticals and Foods: A Review

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, Volume 1, Issue 3, Page 216-250, September 2025.
Increased UA production and/or decreased UA secretion cause hyperuricemia. Effects and mechanism of flavonoids in reducing UA are summarized. Terpenoids, saponins, alkaloids, vitamin C, polysaccharides, peptides are effective. Plant‐based foods with UA‐lowering ability are reviewed.

Black and white truffles as a source of neuroactive biogenic amines

open access: yesNatural Product Research
This study reports the first data about content of serotonin, histamine, and dopamine in black and white truffles fruiting body based on UHPLC-ESI-QqQ-MS/MS. Here we have demonstrated that black (Tuber macrosporum) and white (T. magnatum) truffles are a source of biogenic amines.

Psychedelic Ethics

open access: yesPhilosophy Compass, Volume 20, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The reemergence of serotonergic psychedelics in clinical research and practice has sparked numerous debates within bioethics. This paper aims to provide an overview of the key issues discussed in the emerging field of psychedelic ethics. It organizes these issues into four (partly overlapping) categories: (1) the implementation and execution ...
