Evaluation of blood coagulation by optical vortex tracking [PDF]
We investigated a new optical approach for the detection of the coagulation dynamic process by means of the information on the optical vortex. In our study, laser speckle was captured using a high-speed CMOS camera, and the statistical information of the optical vortex characterized the change in coagulation properties with time.

Chronic Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation: A Case Report [PDF]
In health there is a balance between the coagulation and anti-coagulation systems, but in disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) the coagulation mechanism is activated inappropriately and in a diffuse way.

PROTHROMBIN AND ANTITHROMBIN FACTORS IN THE COAGULATION OF BLOOD [PDF]
Few have studied the prothrombin and antithrombin factors of coagulation of the blood in human cases. Howell 1 devised methods to study these factors and has reported a deficiency of prothrombin in hemophilia with relative excess of antithrombin, a diminution of antithrombin in cases of spontaneous thrombosis and no abnormality in the cases of purpura ...

Thromboembolism in Renal Diseases [PDF]
Patients with renal diseases are prone to both thrombosis and bleeding, as they have profound changes in all three classic components of coagulation, defined approximately 150 years ago by Virchow: blood flow, vessel wall (endothelial injury), and ...

Background Aggressive fluid management and other external factors may lead to hypothermia, acidosis and hemodilution (defined as Lethal Triad, LT) contributing to a trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) that worsens patients’ outcomes.

Management of a Patient with Bombay Blood Group and Chronic Liver Disease with Subdural Hematoma
The Bombay blood group is an extremely rare entity within the conventional ABO blood grouping system. End-stage liver disease also presents with myriad disorders of coagulation due to impaired synthesis and dysfunction of clotting factors, which ...

Evolution of dust grain size distribution and grain porosity in galaxies [PDF]
The radiative properties of interstellar dust are affected not only by the grain size distribution but also by the grain porosity. We develop a model for the evolution of size-dependent grain porosity and grain size distribution over the entire history of galaxy evolution.

Clotting Phenomena at the Blood-Polymer Interface and Development of Blood Compatible Polymeric Surfaces [PDF]
In the past two decades many attempts have been made to relate surface and interfacial parameters with the blood compatibility of polymeric surfaces. It is however doubtful if by a single parameter the behaviour of blood on a surface can be predicted ...

Normal haemostasis is an important physiological mechanism that prevents excessive bleeding during trauma, whereas the pathological thrombosis especially in diabetics leads to increased incidence of heart attacks and strokes as well as peripheral ...
