A mutation in a functional Sp1 binding site of the telomerase RNA gene (hTERC) promoter in a patient with Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haemoglobinuria [PDF]
Background

Mutations in the gene coding for the RNA component of telomerase, hTERC, have been found in autosomal dominant dyskeratosis congenita (DC) and aplastic anemia.

We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Blood Pressure and Blood Protein Determinations in the Frog.
In a previous note,1 the authors called attention to the low protein content of frog's blood. The low colloidal pressure of the blood is an important factor in determining the production of urine. The blood pressure of the frog is not nearly as high as in mammals, but if filtration is the basis of glomerular activity, there should be enough pressure to

Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Characterization of the Proteins HPIP and VENTX2 as Novel Regulatory Proteins of Human Hematopoiesis [PDF]
The hallmark of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) is their ability of self-renewal and differentiation into multiple hematopoietic cell lineages. Although the molecular network controlling stem cell fate decisions is largely unknown, multiple studies have ...

Human cord blood derived immature basophils show dual characteristics, expressing both basophil and eosinophil associated proteins [PDF]
Basophils are blood cells of low abundance associated with allergy, inflammation and parasite infections. To study the transcriptome of mature circulating basophils cells were purified from buffy coats by density gradient centrifugations and two-step ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Genetic polymorphism of blood proteins in a population of shetland ponies
Genetic variation of proteins (protein polymorphism) is widespread among many animal species. The biological significance of protein polymorphism has been the subject of many studies.
