The prevention of unpleasant boar taint is the main reason for castration of male piglets. For animal welfare reasons, castration is announced to be banned in the European Community. Vegetation cover promotes rodent activity and acorn dispersal, while wild boars exert a direct negative effect on mice. Conversely, deer and predators displayed no significant impact on rodent behavior. These results identify wild boars as the main disruptors of rodent‐mediated forest regeneration.
