Structural and biophysical characterization of the Borna disease virus 1 phosphoprotein

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section F, Volume 79, Issue 3, Page 51-60, March 2023., 2023
The phosphoprotein is an essential component of the replication complex in bornaviruses. Here, using X‐ray crystallography, the structure of the phosphoprotein from Borna disease virus 1 is presented and its flexibility in solution is characterized.Bornaviruses are RNA viruses with a mammalian, reptilian, and avian host range.

Borna disease outbreak with high mortality in an alpaca herd in a previously unreported endemic area in Germany [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV‐1) is the causative agent of Borna disease, an often fatal neurologic condition of domestic mammals, including New World camelids, in endemic areas in Central Europe.

No evidence of an association of multiple sclerosis (MS) with Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) infections in patients within an endemic region: a retrospective pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Background Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) causes rare human infections within endemic regions in southern and eastern Germany. The infections reported to date have been linked to severe courses of encephalitis with high mortality and mostly irreversible

The Effect of miR‐505‐5p on Inhibition of Serum Uromodulin Ameliorates Myocardial Inflammation and Apoptosis Induced by Ischemia‐Reperfusion

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Background. It has been found that miR‐505‐5p is closely related to cardiovascular metabolic risk factors. Nonetheless, there is little research analyzing miR‐505‐5p for its role as well as molecular mechanism in myocardial injury caused by ischemia‐reperfusion (I/R). Methods.

Human Borna disease virus 1 encephalitis shows marked pro-inflammatory biomarker and tissue immunoactivation during the course of disease

open access: yesEmerging Microbes and Infections, 2022
Human Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) encephalitis is a severe emerging disease with a very high case-fatality rate. While the clinical disease, case definitions, diagnostic algorithms and neuropathology have been described, very little is known about the

Reverse Genetics and Artificial Replication Systems of Borna Disease Virus 1

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) is a neurotropic RNA virus belonging to the family Bornaviridae within the order Mononegavirales. Whereas BoDV-1 causes neurological and behavioral disorders, called Borna disease (BD), in a wide range of mammals, its ...

A Small Interfering RNA Cocktail Targeting the Nucleoprotein and Large Protein Genes Suppresses Borna Disease Virus Infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Recently, Borna disease virus (BoDV-1)-related fatal encephalitis human cases have been reported, which highlights the potential of BoDV-1 to cause fatal human diseases.

Screening red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) for possible viral causes of encephalitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Next to various known infectious and non-infectious causes, the aetiology of non-suppurative encephalitis in red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) often remains unclear.

Word recognition memory and serum levels of Borna disease virus specific circulating immune complexes in obsessive–compulsive disorder

open access: yesBMC Psychiatry, 2022
Background Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) is a non-segmented, negative-strand RNA virus that persistently infects mammals including humans. BoDV-1 worldwide occurring strains display highly conserved genomes with overlapping genetic signatures between ...
