Histopathologic analysis of bone marrow and bone metastasis in murine neuroblastoma

Clinical and Experimental Metastasis, 1996
To elucidate the development of bone metastasis in human neuroblastoma, bone marrow and bone metastases were analysed histologically in a hematogeneous metastasis model of murine neuroblastoma. The bone marrow metastasis occurred initially in the bone marrow sinusoid where tumor cells adhered and extravasated to bone marrow parenchyma, resulting in the

Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma with Bone Marrow Metastasis

American Journal of Clinical Oncology, 1991
Five of 23 patients with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) were diagnosed to have bone marrow metastasis. They all had advanced local-regional disease, and were treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and definitive radiotherapy after the initial diagnosis. Bone marrow metastasis developed 4-24 months later. The clinical features were anemia (5 of

Glioblastoma with metastasis to the bone marrow

BMJ Case Reports
Extraneural metastasis of glioblastoma (GBM) is rare but expected to increase in incidence as patients live longer. We present a rare case of GBM that has metastasised to the bone marrow shortly after completing standard of care treatment. This case highlights the importance of having a high index of suspicion, using next-generation sequencing testing ...

Bone marrow scintigraphy in the diagnosis of bone metastasis in prostate cancer

International Urology and Nephrology, 1994
We investigated bone marrow scintigraphy in 20 patients with prostate cancer to determine the usefulness of this procedure in the diagnosis of bone metastasis. Thirteen of 17 patients whose bone scans revealed hot spots showed accumulation defects in bone marrow scintigrams.

The Roles of Bone Marrow-Resident Cells as a Microenvironment for Bone Metastasis

2020
It has been appreciated that the cross talk between bone metastatic cancer cells and bone marrow microenvironment influence one another to worsen bone metastatic disease progression. Bone marrow contains various cell types, including (1) cells of mesenchymal origin (e.g., osteoblasts, osteocytes, and adipocytes), (2) cells of hematopoietic origin (e.g.,

A Case of Synovial Sarcoma with Bone Metastasis Identified by Bone Marrow Scintigraphy

Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 1985
In a patient with synovial sarcoma, routine bone survey showed no abnormality, while bone marrow scintigraphy with Tc-99m sulfur colloid revealed a defect in the fifth lumbar vertebra. At surgery, tumorous invasion was noted in the fifth lumbar vertebra and the surrounding tissues.

Mechanism of Metastasis to Bone: The Role of Bone Marrow Endothelium

2009
Cancer cells in the bone come from two sources: primary tumors or metastases from other tissues. Primary cancer of the bone is rare, with 2,370 new cases and 1,330 deaths expected in 2007. Primary cancer accounts for less than 0.2% of all cancers combined [American Cancer Society (ACS)].

Unusual bone marrow metastasis revealed by recurrent haematuria

Annales de Biologie Clinique
Bone marrow metastasis of solid tumours is a sign of advanced disease, with their frequency depending on the primary cancer site. Bone marrow metastasis of bladder cancer is an unusual presentation of the disease. We present a case of a patient with non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, presenting with recurrent macroscopic haematuria after urinary ...

A murine model of experimental metastasis to bone and bone marrow.

Cancer research, 1988
Bone is a common site of metastasis in human cancer. A major impediment to understanding the pathogenesis of bone metastasis has been the lack of an appropriate animal model. In this paper, we describe an animal model in which B16 melanoma cells injected in the left cardiac ventricle reproducibly colonize specific sites of the skeletal system of mice ...

Comprehensive review of solid tumor bone marrow metastasis

Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology
Bone marrow metastasis (BMM) of solid tumors refers to a group of diseases that originate from non-hematopoietic malignant tumor cells invading the bone marrow (BM) through complex metastatic patterns. If BMM identification is delayed, the disease will rapidly develop into disseminated carcinogenesis of the BM, which manifests as a series of ...
