Regulation of epigenetic modifications in the head and neck tumour microenvironment

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Head and neck tumours are common malignancies that are associated with high mortality. The low rate of early diagnosis and the high rates of local recurrence and distant metastasis are the main reasons for treatment failure.

A bioinformatics screen identifies TCF19 as an aggressiveness‐sustaining gene in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Gene expression meta‐analysis in multiple prostate cancer patient cohorts identifies Transcription factor 19 (TCF19) as an aggressiveness‐sustaining gene with prognostic potential. TCF19 is a gene repressed by androgen signaling that sustains core cancer‐related processes such as vascular permeability or tumor growth and metastasis.

Branched AuAg nanoparticles coated by metal–phenolic networks for treating bacteria-induced periodontitis via photothermal antibacterial and immunotherapy

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease caused by bacteria. The prolonged and repeated occurrence of this disease results from immune system disorders and leads to the destruction of surrounding tissues.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Bone substitute effect on vascularization and bone remodeling after application of phVEGF165 transfected BMSC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) promotes vascularization and remodeling of bone substitutes. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of distinct resorbable ceramic carriers on bone forming capacities of VEGF transfected bone marrow ...

Bone cells and the mechanisms of bone remodelling

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2012
Bone is a peculiar connective tissue which functionally interacts with many other organs and tissues, including bone marrow, lymphoid tissue, kidney, adipose tissue, endocrine pancreas, brain and gonads. Bone functions are accomplished by three principal cell types: the osteoblasts, cells of mesenchymal origin having osteogenic functions, the ...
