Detection of DNA double-strand breaks in boron neutron capture reaction

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2015
We evaluated DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) induced by boron neutron capture reaction (BNCR) using plasmid DNA, boron solution, and gel electrophoresis. The amount of the linear form of DNA produced by DSBs increased with the neutron-beam irradiation dose.

The accelerator-based boron neutron capture reaction evaluation system for head and neck cancer

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2020
The purpose of this study is to assess accelerator-based boron neutron capture reaction (BNCR) in human tumor cell lines by colony formation assay and modified high density survival assay (HDS assay). The results of post irradiation survival rate in human oral squamous cell carcinoma and osteosarcoma using both assays were similar. Therefore, HDS assay

Boron neutron capture synovectomy: Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis based on the nuclear reaction

Medical Physics, 1999
A novel application of thenuclear reaction for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is under investigation. Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by a painful inflammation of the membrane (synovium) lining articular joints. Since the tissue targeted for treatment is the diseased synovial membrane and the goal is synovial ablation (“synovectomy”), the ...

Dose calculation from a D–D-reaction-based BSA for boron neutron capture synovectomy

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2010
Monte Carlo simulations were carried out to calculate dose in a knee phantom from a D-D-reaction-based Beam Shaping Assembly (BSA) for Boron Neutron Capture Synovectomy (BNCS). The BSA consists of a D(d,n)-reaction-based neutron source enclosed inside a polyethylene moderator and graphite reflector.

Porphyrin-mediated boron neutron capture therapy: evaluation of the reactions of skin and central nervous system

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 2003
Recently, various boronated porphyrins have been shown to preferentially target a variety of tumour types. Of the different porphyrins evaluated, copper tetra-phenyl-carboranyl porphyrin (CuTCPH) is a strong candidate for future preclinical evaluation.

The Microdosimetry of the10B Reaction in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy: A New Generalized Theory

Radiation Research, 2004
The microdosimetry of (10)B thermal neutron capture reactions should be considered as an essential step to be followed before studying the radiobiological aspects of boron neutron capture therapy. The boron dose itself is insufficient as the only quantity used to describe the biological effectiveness of the (10)B reaction for two important reasons: the

Monte Carlo Calculation of Microdosimetry in Nitrogen and Boron Neutron Capture Reactions

1993
In Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT), boron-10 is present in capillaries and normal cells and is selectively taken up by cancer cells which are rapidly dividing. Normal tissue tolerance depends on the dose to the capillary walls resulting from blood borne boron.

Microdosimetric considerations in the use of the boron neutron capture reaction in radiation therapy

Medical Physics, 1997
This thesis attempts to further the understanding of the dosimetric and microdosimetric aspects of the boron neutron capture reaction (BNCR) in two distinct radiation therapy modalities, the conventional BNCT and boron neutron capture enhanced fast neutron therapy (BNCEFNT). The absorbed dose in these two modalities consists of contributions from gamma

Extracellular Vesicles Comprising Carborane Prepared by a Host Exchanging Reaction as a Boron Carrier for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
With their low immunogenicity and excellent deliverability, extracellular vesicles (EVs) are promising platforms for drug delivery systems. In this study, hydrophobic molecule loading techniques were developed via an exchange reaction based on supramolecular chemistry without using organic solvents that can induce EV disruption and harmful side effects.

Neutron Source for Boron-Neutron-Capture Therapy Based on the Reaction 7Li(p, n)7Be Near Threshold

Atomic Energy, 2003
The results are presented of calculations of the absorbed dose distribution produced in a tissue-equivalent phantom by a neutron source based on the reaction 7Li(p, n)7Be near threshold. The investigation was conducted to study the possibility of using the KG-2,5 accelerator at the Physics and Power-Engineering Institute to treat cancer patients by ...
