The Relative Biological Effectiveness in V79 Chinese Hamster Cells of the Neutron Capture Reactions in Boron and Nitrogen

Radiation Research, 1984
V79 Chinese hamster cells were irradiated in the presence of different amounts of boric acid with thermal neutrons at the Medical Research Reactor at Brookhaven National Laboratory. From the linear dose-survival curves observed, a D0 value of 66 rad for the ${}^{10}{\rm B}(n,\alpha)^{7}{\rm Li}$ neutron capture reaction was obtained.

Development of epi-thermal neutron beam intensity detector with 71Ga(n,γ)72Ga reaction for boron neutron capture therapy

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2019
Based on the activation method using 71Ga(n,γ)72Ga reaction, a cubic neutron flux intensity detector for epi-thermal neutrons was designed for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and experimentally tested with a prototype detector in a neutron field produced at OKTAVIAN facility of Osaka University, Japan.

Characterisation of neutron and gamma-ray emission from thick target Be(p,n) reaction for boron neutron capture therapy

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 1998
Abstract Low energy accelerator-based neutron sources have promising potential for use in a clinical treatment of cancer with boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) and boron neutron capture synovectomy (BNCS). Such sources often utilise a thick target Be(p,n) reaction using incident proton energies from several hundred keV to 1–2 MeV above the ...

Acute and Late Reactions Following Boron Neutron Capture Epithermal-Neutron Therapy in Dogs with Spontaneous Brain Tumors

1992
Dogs have a relatively high incidence of primary tumors of the central nervous system and have proven to be good models for new therapeutic investigation.1 The pharmacokinetics of borocaptate sodium have been well documented in the dog.2 Preliminary investigations of the normal tissue tolerance to boron neutron capture therapy have been performed ...

Measurements of low-energy (d,n) reactions for BNCT. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy.

Medical physics, 1999
Neutron yields and energy spectra have been measured for various deuteron-induced reactions at low energy. Neutrons of energy > 100 keV emitted in the 9Be(d,n)10B, 12C(d,n)13N, and 13C(d,n)14N reactions at Ed= 1.5 MeV were detected at five angles by means of liquid scintillator detectors. While low-energy neutrons were observed in all studied reactions,

Use of the 9Be(d,n) Nuclear Reaction for Accelerator-Based Boron Neutron Capture Therapy

2001
Accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (AB-BNCT) is currently being studied as an alternative to reactor-based BNCT at MIT’s Laboratory for Accelerator Beam Applications (LABA).1 A tandem accelerator designed by Newton Scientific, Inc. has been installed at LABA,2 and an associated switching magnet permits simultaneous setup of a number of ...

Evaluation of useful neutron flux for accelerator boron neutron capture therapy using the 7Li(p,n) reaction.

Australasian physical & engineering sciences in medicine, 1999
Accelerator neutron sources for epithermal neutron capture therapy utilising the 7Li(p,n) nuclear reaction are proposed to operate in the range of 1.88 to 2.5 MeV proton energy. Operation with proton energies closer to the reaction threshold decreases neutron yield but allows for smaller reflector and moderator, with less reduction of the epithermal ...
