Behaviour of the ZW sex bivalent in the snake Bothrops jararaca
Chromosoma, 1981The behavior of the ZW sex bivalent was investigated in female meiosis of the poisonous snake Bothrops jararaca. The Z is euchromatic and synapses end to end with the W. The W chromosome shows a heterochromatic segment distally in the short arm. Pairing occurs between the long arm of the W and the slightly longer arm of the mediocentric Z.

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2006The distribution of perikarya and fibers containing somatostatin was studied in the brain of the snake Bothrops jararaca by means of immunohistochemistry using an antiserum against synthetic somatostatin. General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2006The distribution of galanin-like immunoreactive perikarya and nerve fibers in the brain of the snake Bothrops jararaca was studied by means of immunohistochemistry using an antiserum against porcine galanin. Immunoreactive neurons were only detected in the infundibular recess nucleus.

The effect of experimental Bothrops jararaca envenomation on pregnant mice
Toxicon, 2006The injury caused by the intramuscular injection of a single dose of Bothrops jararaca venom (0.24 mg/kg body weight) to mice on day 8 of pregnancy and examined on day 9 was investigated. Macroscopic and histological examination showed that the bothropic venom caused an increase in the incidence of fetal resorptions.
