In snakes, profound differences in retinal architecture are observed between diurnal and nocturnal species. Additionally, in the rod‐dominated retinas of nocturnal snakes, coexpression of the cone opsins SWS1 and LWS in individual cones is common, while rhodopsin (RH1) is restricted to typical rods.

Snakebite envenoming is a neglected tropical disease that kills >100,000 people and maims >400,000 people every year. Impoverished populations living in the rural tropics are particularly vulnerable; snakebite envenoming perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

Stabilising the Integrity of Snake Venom mRNA Stored under Tropical Field Conditions Expands Research Horizons. [PDF]
BACKGROUND Snake venoms contain many proteinaceous toxins that can cause severe pathology and mortality in snakebite victims. Interestingly, mRNA encoding such toxins can be recovered directly from venom, although yields are low and quality is unknown ...

Snake envenomation is a public health problem, and while serum therapy prevents death, the local effects of venoms can lead to amputations or morbidities. Thus, alternative treatments deserve attention. In this study, we tested eight derivatives of 1,2,3-

Abstract Capturing data on the life of fossorial vertebrates is difficult since access to the subterranean environment is made unfeasible by its density and opacity. Collecting specimens is only possible through excavation work, causing damage or even death to the specimens.

Snake venom toxins: Potential anticancer therapeutics
Abstract Snake venom contains a cocktail of compounds dominated by proteins and peptides, which make up the toxin. The toxin components of snake venom attack several targets in the human body including the neuromuscular system, kidney and blood coagulation system and cause pathologies. As such, the venom toxins can be managed and used for the treatment
