Recognition of boxA antiterminator RNA by the E. coli antitermination factors NusB and ribosomal protein S10

Cell, 1993
The boxA sequences of the E. coli ribosomal RNA (rrn) operons are sufficient to cause RNA polymerase to read through Rho-dependent transcriptional terminators. We show that a complex of the transcription antitermination factors NusB and ribosomal protein S10 interacts specifically with boxA RNA.

Role of the spacer boxA of Escherichia coli ribosomal RNA operons in efficient 23 S rRNA synthesis in vivo

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1997
A boxA sequence, known to be important for transcriptional antitermination, is found in both the leader region and in the spacer between the 16 S and 23 S genes of Escherichia coli ribosomal RNA operons. We have shown that a functional leader boxA is important for efficient completion of 16 S rRNA transcription.
