Effects of Add‐On Icosapent Ethyl With Standard Treatment on Functional Outcomes and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke, a major cause of mortality and long‐term disability, results from the abrupt cessation of cerebral blood flow due to vascular occlusion or rupture. Icosapent Ethyl (EPA‐EE), approved for hypertriglyceridemia, has anti‐inflammatory and antithrombotic properties that may lessen ischemic damage.

Rat brain endothelial cells are a target of manganese toxicity [PDF]

open access: yesBrain Research, 2010
Manganese (Mn) is an essential trace metal; however, exposure to high Mn levels can result in neurodegenerative changes resembling Parkinson's disease (PD). Information on Mn's effects on endothelial cells of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is lacking. Accordingly, we tested the hypothesis that BBB endothelial cells are a primary target for Mn-induced ...

Multi‐Region Brain Organoids Integrating Cerebral, Mid‐Hindbrain, and Endothelial Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Brain organoid technology has revolutionized the ability to model human neurodevelopment in vitro. However, current techniques remain limited by their reliance on simplified endothelial cell populations.

Regulator of G‐Protein Signaling 5 Maintains Brain Endothelial Cell Function in Focal Cerebral Ischemia

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
Background Regulator of G‐protein signaling 5 (RGS5) is a negative modulator of G‐protein–coupled receptors. The role of RGS5 in brain endothelial cells is not known.

Blood RNA Biomarker Signatures for Early Diagnosis and Prognosis in Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke: The IBIS‐CT1 Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the expression of nine blood RNA biomarkers in a clinical trial based on genes previously identified in an experimental monkey model of stroke for diagnosis feasibility and prognostication. Methods IBIS‐CT1 was a prospective longitudinal study enrolling patients with ischemic stroke (IS) or intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH ...

Endothelial Wnt/β-catenin signaling inhibits glioma angiogenesis and normalizes tumor blood vessels by inducing PDGF-B expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Endothelial Wnt/β-catenin signaling is necessary for angiogenesis of the central nervous system and blood–brain barrier (BBB) differentiation, but its relevance for glioma vascularization is unknown. In this study, we show that doxycycline-dependent Wnt1

Predictive Value of Composite Inflammatory Markers for Stroke Prognosis: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Novel composite inflammatory markers' role in stroke prognosis is understudied, and the best predictor is unclear, requiring further exploration. Objectives This study aimed to systematically evaluate the associations of 6 novel composite inflammatory markers on stroke prognosis.

Isolation, Culture and Functional Characterization of Glia and Endothelial Cells From Adult Pig Brain

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
Primary cultures of glial and endothelial cells are important tools for basic and translational neuroscience research. Primary cell cultures are usually generated from rodent brain although considerable differences exist between human and rodent glia and

Increased Type I interferon signaling and brain endothelial barrier dysfunction in an experimental model of Alzheimer’s disease

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Blood–brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction is emerging as a key pathogenic factor in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), where increased microvascular endothelial permeability has been proposed to play an important role.

Integrated PANoptosis Profiling Identifies Immunosuppressive Subtypes and a Prognostic Signature With Functional Validation of MLKL in Glioblastoma

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The prognosis of glioblastoma (GBM) remains highly unfavorable, largely due to high tumor heterogeneity and an immunosuppressive microenvironment. However, the functional role of PANoptosis in this context is poorly understood. Methods Patients were stratified via K‐means clustering. A risk score model was constructed using prognosis‐
