Interspecies Biofilm Dynamics Among Staphylococci: Inflammatory Contributions to Chronic Rhinosinusitis

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Staphylococcus species are frequently isolated from the sinonasal niche of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients. While Staphylococcus aureus is often associated with recalcitrant CRS, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus lugdunensis are largely deemed commensal.

Analysis of antibiotic sensitivity of clinical strains of microorganisms with the Russian Mueller–Hinton broth

open access: yesЖурнал микробиологии, эпидемиологии и иммунобиологии
Introduction. One of the reasons for spreading antibiotic-resistant microorganisms is the uncontrolled use and inadequate empirical prescription of antibiotics which is not based on the results of the pathogen sensitivity testing.

Evaluation of agar dilution and broth microdilution methods to determine the disinfectant susceptibility [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Antibiotics, 2015
A variety of disinfectants have been widely used in veterinary hygiene, food industries and environments, which could induce the development of bacterial resistance to disinfectants. The methods used to investigate antimicrobial effects of disinfectant vary considerably among studies, making comparisons difficult. In this study, agar dilution and broth

Nanodiamonds as Bioactive Platforms to Modulate Microbial, Mammalian, and Vertebrate Systems

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Nanodiamonds (NDs) are biocompatible and antibacterial nanomaterials that support mammalian cell growth while inhibiting bacterial pathogens. NDs showed strong antibacterial activity, with Escherichia coli being more sensitive than Staphylococcus aureus. At 10 mg/mL, both bacteria exhibited ~8% viability.

Diagnosis of bacteraemia in neonatal foals using 16S rRNA high‐throughput sequencing

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in foals. Early diagnosis can improve outcome but is complicated by non‐specific clinical signs and delayed confirmation of infection via blood culture. Molecular assays represent a rapid and more sensitive alternative.

Mining Oral Probiotics Based on Their Pathogen Inhibition and Deodorization Roles

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
A promising oral probiotic strain Streptococcus salivarius MY‐6 stood out from 41 candidate lactic acid bacteria through the high‐throughput strategy based on its inhibitions of the growth and biofilm formation of the main oral pathogens Fusobacterium nucleatum and Porphyromonas gingivalis, as well as its elimination of oral malodor‐associated ...

Comparative evaluation of various disc elution methods for the detection of colistin-resistant gram-negative bacteria

open access: yesOpen Medicine
The current study was designed to determine the performance of colistin broth disc elution (CBDE), colistin broth micro elution (CBME), and microplate elution (MPE) methods with the broth microdilution (BMD) reference method.

Plant‐Derived Extracts Disrupt Biofilm Formation and Quorum Sensing in Yersinia enterocolitica: Insights From GC‐MS and Molecular Docking

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract represents how natural plant products that preferentially target the specific receptors of quorum sensing could be developed to combat biofilms linked to Yersinia enterocolitica using the potent abilities of protein–ligand complexes with high docking scores.

Interpretation of Key Updates in the 36th Edition of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute M100 Standard

open access: yesiLABMED, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute M100 document serves as a cornerstone standard for clinical microbiology laboratories in China. Maintaining the scientific rigor of its predecessors, the 36th edition incorporates updated epidemiological cutoff values, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic data, and clinical efficacy evidence to revise
