Real‐life implementation of guideline‐recommended medical therapy in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: Effects on prognosis and left ventricular ejection fraction. Primary results of TITRATE‐HF

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, Volume 27, Issue 12, Page 2735-2746, December 2025.
Primary results of TITRATE‐HF. GRMT, guideline‐recommended medical therapy; HF, heart failure; HFrEF, heart failure with reduced ejection fraction; LVEF, left ventricular ejection fraction. Abstract Aims Guideline‐recommended medical therapy (GRMT) improves outcomes in heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), yet implementation ...

Effects of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural on the volume and membrane permeability of red blood cells from patients with sickle cell disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The heterocyclic aldehyde 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (5HMF) interacts allosterically with the abnormal form of haemoglobin (Hb), HbS, in red blood cells (RBCs) from patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), thereby increasing oxygen affinity and ...

Clinical profiles and prognostic impact of residual intravascular and tissue congestion in acute heart failure

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, Volume 27, Issue 12, Page 3123-3133, December 2025.
This study investigated the prognostic value of residual congestion phenotypes at discharge in acute heart failure. Patients with intravascular residual congestion had better diuretic responses and shorter hospital stays than those with tissue/combined residual congestion, but worse outcomes than decongested patients.

Exploring the Cell Biological and Functional Effects of the First Disease Associated KCC1 Genetic Variant

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 240, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT The potassium chloride cotransporter 1 (KCC1) is ubiquitously expressed and essential for regulating cellular fluid balance. We identified a patient carrying a genetic variant (E1065K) in the KCC1 coding gene SLC12A4. This study explored the impact of the variant in ectopic cell systems and enhanced the understanding of cell biological ...
