The study of Neotropical Apicotermitinae remains challenging due to the large number of undescribed taxa (Linnean shortfall) as well as the scarcity of distributional data (Wallacean shortfall). Despite recent efforts to reduce the first one, the second remains an even more significant challenge.

Biodiesel Production From Canola Oil by Titanium Dioxide‐Photocatalysed Transesterification
Photocatalytic transesterification of canola oil over TiO2 under UVA irradiation enables biodiesel production under mild conditions. Yields up to 73% FAME and 38% FAEE were achieved, with negative Gibbs free energy (ΔG < 0) confirming thermodynamic favourability.

Thermodynamic properties of Buriti (Mauritia flexuosa) tree gum [PDF]
Abstract Moisture adsorption and desorption isotherms from buriti tree gum (BG) were obtained at different temperatures (25 to 55 °C) in a water activity range of 0.1 to 0.9. The isotherms were classified as type II. The hysteresis loop and moisture of the monolayer decreased as temperature increased and Halsey’s equation proved able to predict with ...

Summary Tropical peatlands are critical for climate mitigation due to their dual role as major carbon sinks and methane sources. In rainforests, high and stable rainfall supports peat accumulation in tropical climates. However, groundwater‐fed peatlands in seasonally dry tropical ecosystems remain poorly understood, despite their potential importance ...

Refrigerated storage of the fruits of the buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L.)
The objective of this study was to evaluate different storage conditions to maximize the shelf-life of buriti fruits; under ambient conditions the fruits last only 2-3 days. Buriti fruits were stored refrigerated at 10, 12 and 15oC with 85±5% relative humidity, and at room temperature (23±5°C) and 60±5% relative humidity.

THERMOPLASTIC STARCH-UCUUBA BIOCOMPOSITES: EFFECT OF BURITI PULP OIL ON LIGNOCELLULOSIC FIBER DISPERSION [PDF]
The use of residual biomass in biocomposite production aligns with environmental goals set by solid waste policies. Starch, a low-cost and renewable natural polymer, often faces challenges with mechanical strength and water vapor permeability.
