Abstract This work reports the preparation and characterization of Buriti ( Mauritia flexuosa L.) oil/polystyrene (PS) and Buriti oil/poly(methyl methacrylate) blends. The Buriti is an abundant palm tree of the Amazon region. This oil was used because of its chemical composition (high concentrations of oleic acid, tocopherols and carotenoids ...

This work reports the thermal and structural changes promoted by Buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L.) oil incorporation into polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrices. Buriti oil, which was used due to its high β-carotene content has a good thermal stability and can provide some stability to PS and PMMA as it was shown by TG and TMA data.

Abstract Bioactive compounds present in fruit oils have an antioxidant activity, which may be related to an immunomodulatory effect, which in turn can result in a microbicidal activity. Hence, the main aim of the current study is to evaluate the immunomodulatory effect of buriti oil (Mauritia Flexuosa L.) against enteropathogenic Escherichia coli ...

Abstract The present work aimed at the extraction and concentration of β-carotene from crude and refined buriti oils using enzymatic hydrolysis as a process strategy. The performance of two commercial lipolytic preparations (Lipozyme TL IM and CALB L), as well as lipases from Yarrowia lipolytica, was evaluated.
