Chronic toxicity of butylated hydroxytoluene in Wistar rats
Food and Cosmetics Toxicology, 1981Abstract Groups of 57 Wistar rats of each sex were maintained on diet containing 0.25 or 1% butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) for 104 wk; control groups comprised 36 rats of each sex. Treated rats of both sexes showed reduced body-weight gain, relative spleen weight and white-blood-cell count while in the males there was also a reduction in serum ...

Cytotoxicity of butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene in isolated rat hepatocytes
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1988The effects of the antioxidants butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) on isolated rat hepatocytes were investigated. Both antioxidants were observed to be cytotoxic in a concentration-dependent manner at concentrations ranging from 100 to 750 microM. At equimolar concentrations BHT was more cytotoxic than BHA. Their toxicity

Protein-deficient diets II. Toxicity of butylated hydroxytoluene
Toxicology, 1973Abstract The acute toxicity of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) was determined in rats in relation to the level of protein in their diet. In a short-term study the effect of BHT on the activity of alanine and aspartate aminotransferases, fructosediphosphate aldolase and glucosephosphate isomerase in rat serum and liver homogenates was analysed.
