Biological invasion by the cycad‐specific scale pest Aulacaspis yasumatsui (Diaspididae) into Cycas revoluta (Cycadaceae) populations on Amami‐Oshima and Okinawa‐jima, Japan

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, EarlyView.
This article details the invasion of cycad aulacaspis scale into the islands of Okinawa‐Jima and Amami‐Oshima. Several recommendations are proposed in this article by members of the IUCN cycad specialist group and experts in the biological control of this scale insect.

Perennial Flower Strips Can Be a Cost‐Effective Tool for Pest Suppression in Orchards

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flower strips can provide many economic benefits in commercial orchards, including reducing crop damage by a problematic pest, rosy apple aphid (Dysaphis plantaginea [Passerini]). To explore the financial costs and benefits of this effect, we developed a bio‐economic model to compare the establishment and opportunity costs of perennial ...

Oral Immunotherapy in Peanut‐Allergic Adults Using Real‐World Materials

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
In 21 adults initiated on peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT), 67% tolerated at least 1000 mg on exit DBPCFC. Decreases in SPT size and increases in peanut‐ and Ara h 2‐specific IgG occurred in OIT participants but not in mechanistic controls (n = 9). Improvements were seen in FAQLQ‐AF and food neophobia scores.

Clinical Results for Cardiovascular Xenografts Treated With Novel Anticalcification Protocols

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the safety, efficacy, and clinical performance of the tissue‐engineered Periborn bovine pericardial scaffold treated with our novel anticalcification protocols for surgical repair of a variety of cardiovascular diseases. The overall probability of freedom from Periborn‐related reoperation was 95.4% ± 3.2% at 9 years.

Understanding erythroid physiology and pathology in humanized mice: A closer look

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Erythropoiesis, the formation of red blood cells (RBCs) from haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), is vital for understanding conditions like anaemia and haemoglobinopathies. However, studying this process in vivo is challenging due to the lack of accurate models.

Iron trapping in macrophages reshapes the homeostasis of the haematopoietic system

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Deletion of ferroportin (Fpn) in myeloid cells results in iron trapping in macrophages and reshapes whole haematopoiesis with ageing. Impaired local iron supply to bone marrow (BM) leads to anaemia and microcytaemia, unbalanced megakaryopoiesis versus erythropoiesis and reduced BM cells starting from haematopoietic stem cells.
