Direct arylation catalysis with chloro[8-(dimesitylboryl)quinoline-κN]copper(I)

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2016
We report direct arylation of arylhalides with unactivated sp2 C–H bonds in benzene and naphthalene using a copper(I) catalyst featuring an ambiphilic ligand, (quinolin-8-yl)dimesitylborane.

Deuteration of Arenes via Pd-Catalyzed C–H Activation – A Lesson in Nondirected C–H Activation, Isotopic Labelling and NMR Characterization

open access: yes
Isotopic labelling is an important tool in medicinal research, metabolomics, and for understanding reaction mechanisms. In this context, transition metal catalyzed C–H activation has emerged as a key technology for deuterium incorporation via hydrogen ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Differential roles for the adapters Gads and LAT in platelet activation by GPVI and CLEC-2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: The adapter proteins SLP-76 and LAT have been shown to play critical roles in the activation of PLCc2 in platelets downstream of GPVI/FcRc and the C-type lectin receptor CLEC-2.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Mechanistic Investigations of C–H Activations on Silica-Supported Co(ii) Sites in Catalytic Propane Dehydrogenation

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2017
Catalytic reactions involving C–H bond activations are central to the chemical industry. One such example, alkane dehydrogenation, has recently become very important due to shortfalls in propene production and a large supply of cheap propane ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
