Mn removal from groundwater by biological sand filter technology is negatively impacted by low temperatures in winter periods. Therefore, the need to study Mn(II)-oxidizing bacteria (MOB) having the potential to oxidize Mn(II) and form biofilms at low ...

Sulfite: Cytochrome \u3cem\u3ec\u3c/em\u3e Oxidoreductase from \u3cem\u3eThiobacillus novellus\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]
Direct oxidation of sulfite to sulfate occurs in various photo- and chemotrophic sulfur oxidizing microorganisms as the final step in the oxidation of reduced sulfur compounds and is catalyzed by sulfite:cytochrome c oxidoreductase (EC1.8.2.1).

Rcf1 and Rcf2, Members of the Hypoxia-induced Gene 1 Protein Family, Are Critical Components of the Mitochondrial Cytochrome bc1-cytochrome Oxidase Supercomplex [PDF]
We report that Rcf1 (formerly Aim31), a member of the conserved hypoxia-induced gene 1 (Hig1) protein family, represents a novel component of the yeast cytochrome bc1-cytochrome c oxidase (COX) supercomplex.

We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

H NMR Studies of Eukaryotic Cytochrome c [PDF]
H NMR resonance assignments in the spectra of horse, tuna, Neurmpora crassa and Candida krusei cyto-chromes c are described. Assignments have been made using NMR double-resonance techniques in conjunction with electron-exchange experiments, spectral ...

Mutants of Paracoccus denitrificans Deficient in c-type Cytochromes [PDF]
Summary: Eight mutants of Paracoccus denitrificans deficient in c-type cytochrome were detected by their inability to catalyse the conversion of α-naphthol plus dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine to indophenol. From the properties of two of these mutants which completely lacked spectrophotometrically detectable c-type cytochrome, evidence was provided for the

14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Cytochrome c (Cytc) is important for both mitochondrial respiration and apoptosis, both of which are altered in cancer cells that switch to Warburg metabolism and manage to evade apoptosis.

The adaptor protein CRK is a pro-apoptotic transducer of endoplasmic reticulum stress. [PDF]
Excessive demands on the protein-folding capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) cause irremediable ER stress and contribute to cell loss in a number of cell degenerative diseases, including type 2 diabetes and neurodegeneration.

Precursors of Cytochrome Oxidase in Cytochrome-Oxidase-Deficient Cells of Neurospora crassa [PDF]
Three different cell types of Neurospora crassa deficient in cytochrome oxidase were studied: the nuclear mutant cni-1, the cytoplasmic mutant mi-1 and copper-depleted wild-type cells. * 1.
