Impact of Epicatechin Supplementation on Plasma Proteome Profiles in Obese Men and Women—An Exploratory Approach to Sexual Dimorphism

open access: yesPROTEOMICS – Clinical Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Evidence suggests that consuming epicatechin‐rich green tea can increase metabolism in the body, and this metabolic effect might be linked to weight loss in obese subjects. The precise mechanism by which epicatechin influences weight loss is still unclear.

Elevated Plasma Complement C1Q Measured Subacutely after Traumatic Brain Injury Is Associated with Poor Functional Outcome Independent of Initial Injury Severity

open access: yesNeurotrauma Reports
Following traumatic brain injury (TBI), secondary processes, including inflammation, contribute significantly to long-term cognitive and functional impairments.

P2X7 receptor antagonism suppresses epileptiform‐like activity in an inflammation‐primed human iPSC‐derived neuron model of drug‐resistant epilepsy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 2, Page 296-312, January 2026.
Background and Purpose Neuroinflammation is increasingly recognised to contribute to drug‐resistant epilepsy. Activation of ATP‐gated P2X7 receptors has emerged as an important upstream mechanism, and increased P2X7 receptor expression is present in the seizure focus in rodent models and patients. Pharmacological antagonists of P2X7 receptors attenuate

The ER/Golgi Protein FNDC3B Facilitates Climbing Fibre to Purkinje Cell Synapse Elimination in the Developing Mouse Cerebellum

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 2, January 2026.
We investigated the role of fibronectin type III domain containing 3B (FNDC3B) in climbing fiber (CF) to Purkinje cell (PC) synapse elimination during postnatal development of the mouse cerebellum. We performed PC‐specific deletion of FNDC3B by RNAi‐mediated knockdown or PC‐specific conditional knockout in mice and examined CF to PC synapse development

Activator of apoptosis harakiri (HRK) localisation at mitochondria alters mitochondrial morphology independently of other BCL‐2 proteins

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 2, Page 549-564, January 2026.
How the structure of HRK, a member of the BCL‐2 protein family, contributes to its function is poorly understood. Functional analysis of HRK mutants reveals that HRK induces apoptosis in a BH3‐domain‐dependent, but transmembrane‐domain‐independent, manner. The transmembrane domain localises HRK to mitochondria, but alone is insufficient.

Mutations in UMOD Contribute to the Pathogenesis of ADTKD‐UMOD by Influencing the Function of Complement Factor H

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 2, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Tubular atrophy and interstitial fibrosis are basic renal pathological changes in autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease (ADTKD). Reduced secretion or abnormal structure of uromodulin (UMOD) are recognised pathogenic factors of ADTKD.

Unveiling the Proteomic Landscape of Extracellular Vesicles: Implications for Neurodegeneration and Neuroprotection

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 1, January 2026.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are tiny, membrane‐covered packets that cells naturally release to send molecular information to one another. In the brain, they function as couriers that move proteins, lipids, and other signals between neurons, glial cells, and the blood–brain barrier.

Structural Design and Immunogenicity of a Novel Self‐Adjuvanting Mucosal Vaccine Candidate for SARS‐CoV‐2 Expressed in Plants

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 1, Page 284-299, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Mucosal vaccination for COVID‐19 to boost preexisting though insufficient systemic and local/mucosal immunity remains an attractive prospect but there are currently no licensed mucosal vaccines against this infection. Here, using a plant expression system, we developed a novel mucosal vaccine platform for respiratory viruses and demonstrated ...
