Metabolism of haem in Caco‐2 cells [PDF]
The haem oxygenase‐1–biliverdin reductase system degrades haem and generates biliverdin and bilirubin, both of which possess antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory properties. Biliverdin and bilirubin are protective in intestinal injury models, but little is known about their generation and fate in the intestine.

Cytotoxicity and intestinal permeability of phycotoxins assessed by the human Caco-2 cell model
Phycotoxins are a class of multiple natural metabolites produced by microalgae in marine and freshwater ecosystems that bioaccumulate in food webs, particularly in shellfish, having a great impact on human health.

Characterization of Acetylcholinesterase in Caco-2 Cells
Acetylcholinesterase (acetylcholine hydrolase, EC 3.1.1.7) was solubilized from cultured Caco-2 cells. It was established that this enzyme activity is acetylcholinesterase by substrate specificity (acetylthiocholine, acetyl-β-methylthiocholine>propionylthiocholine>butyrylthiocholine), substrate inhibition, and specificity of inhibitors (BW284c51 ...

Compatibility of Caco-2 cells with Simulated Intestinal Fluid-Predicting Permeability
The Caco-2 cell model is considered the gold standard when analysing drug permeability and risk-assessing bioavailability. The use of Simulated Intestinal Fluid (SIF) as a tool in the Caco-2 models is beneficial as this generates a more physiologically ...

Construction of Caco-2 cell hollow fiber bioreactor for the study on functional substances
Human colon carcinoma cell line Caco-2 has been extensively used over the last thirty years as a model of the intestinal barrier. The parental cell line undergoes a process of spontaneous differentiation that leads to the formation of a monolayer of ...

The intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cell monolayer is a well-established in vitro model useful for predicting intestinal drug absorption in humans. Coculture models of Caco-2 and goblet-cell-like HT29-MTX cells have been developed to overcome the lack of a ...

Absorption and Metabolism Characteristics of Rutin in Caco‐2 Cells [PDF]
The intestinal absorption and metabolism characteristics of the potentially beneficial polyphenol rutin were studied by measuring the intracellular accumulation and transport of rutin into Caco‐2 cells with the sensitive and reliable analytical method of HPLC‐coupled tandem mass spectrometry.

Sucralose Stimulates Mitochondrial Bioenergetics in Caco-2 Cells [PDF]
Sucralose is a non-caloric artificial sweetener widely used in processed foods that reportedly affects energy homeostasis through partially understood mechanisms. Mitochondria are organelles fundamental for cellular bioenergetics that are closely related to the development of metabolic diseases. Here, we addressed whether sucralose alters mitochondrial
