Mapping Hsp104 interactions using cross‐linking mass spectrometry

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study examines how cross‐linking mass spectrometry can be utilized to analyze ATP‐induced conformational changes in Hsp104 and its interactions with substrates. We developed an analytical pipeline to distinguish between intra‐ and inter‐subunit contacts within the hexameric homo‐oligomer and discovered contacts between Hsp104 and a selected ...

Both cellular ATP level and ATP hydrolysis free energy determine energetically the calcium oscillation in pancreatic $β$-cell [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In pancreatic $\beta$-cells, calcium oscillation signal is the core part of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. Intracellular calcium concentration oscillates in response to the intake of glucose, which triggers the exocytosis of insulin secretory granules. ATP plays a crucial part in this process.

Structure–Function Diversity of Calcium-Binding Proteins (CaBPs): Key Roles in Cell Signalling and Disease

open access: yesCells
Calcium (Ca2+) signalling is a fundamental cellular process, essential for a wide range of physiological functions. It is regulated by various mechanisms, including a diverse family of Ca2+-binding proteins (CaBPs), which are structurally and ...

Piezo1 channels enhance anabolic signaling activation induced by electrical stimulation of cultured myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Sleep deprivation of rats increases postsurgical expression and activity of L-type calcium channel in the dorsal root ganglion and slows recovery from postsurgical pain

open access: yesActa Neuropathologica Communications, 2019
Perioperative sleep disturbance is a risk factor for persistent pain after surgery. Clinical studies have shown that patients with insufficient sleep before and after surgery experience more intense and long-lasting postoperative pain.

Calcium Channel Blockers

open access: yesMedical Clinics of North America, 1988
The calcium channel blockers initially were approved for the treatment of classical and variant angina pectoris. Recent studies indicate that these agents also are useful in such diverse conditions as pulmonary and systemic hypertension, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, asthma, Raynaud's syndrome, esophageal spasm, myometrial hyperactivity ...

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

Regulatory Mechanisms and Pathophysiological Significance of IP3 Receptors and Ryanodine Receptors in Drug Dependence

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2013
Calcium is a ubiquitous intracellular signaling molecule required for initiating and regulating neuronal functions. Ca2+ release from intracellular stores in the endoplasmic reticulum into intracellular spaces via intracellular Ca2+–releasing channels ...

Study of Selectivity and Permeation In Voltage-Gated Ion Channels [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Ion channels are membrane proteins responsible for an enormous range of biological functions. Ion selectivity and permeation are based on simple laws of physics and chemistry. Ion channels are therefore ideal candidates for physical investigation. A reduced model generates the selectivity of voltage-gated L-type calcium channel under a wide range of ...
