Caloric Restriction recovers impaired β-cell-β-cell gap junction coupling, calcium oscillation coordination and insulin secretion in prediabetic mice.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology. Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2020
Caloric restriction can decrease the incidence of metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The mechanisms underlying the benefits of caloric restriction involved in insulin secretion and glucose homeostasis are not fully ...

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Impact of caloric and dietary restriction regimens on markers of health and longevity in humans and animals: a summary of available findings

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2011
Considerable interest has been shown in the ability of caloric restriction (CR) to improve multiple parameters of health and to extend lifespan. CR is the reduction of caloric intake - typically by 20 - 40% of ad libitum consumption - while maintaining ...

Caloric restriction: implications for sarcopenia and potential mechanisms

open access: yesAging, 2020
Sarcopenia is a potential risk factor for weakness, disability and death in elderly individuals. Therefore, seeking effective methods to delay and treat sarcopenia and to improve the quality of life of elderly individuals is a trending topic in ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Caloric restriction and its mimetics in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology
The global increase in human life expectancy, coupled with an unprecedented rise in the prevalence of obesity, has led to a growing clinical and socioeconomic burden of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Caloric restriction induces anabolic resistance to resistance exercise

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Applied Physiology, 2020
Purpose Weight loss can result in the loss of muscle mass and bone mineral density. Resistance exercise is commonly prescribed to attenuate these effects.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...
