Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are predominantly present in breast cancer patients with estrogen receptor negative tumors, among whom increasing levels correlate with favorable outcomes. Nevertheless, currently available immune checkpoint inhibitors appear to benefit only a small number of women with breast cancer.
