Genome-wide association mapping and gene expression analysis reveal candidate genes for grain chalkiness in rice

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
Grain chalkiness is the main factor determining the market value of rice. Reducing chalkiness is an important breeding goal for genetic improvement of high quality rice.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Designing functional markers to identify the candidate gene SRWD2 involved in salt tolerances of Vietnamese rice landraces

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Science, Technology and Engineering, 2017
Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses, and it limits rice production in many worldwide areas. A lot of attention has been paid to developing rice salinity tolerance to cope with climate change.

Genetic Parameter Estimation and Whole Sequencing Analysis of the Genetic Architecture of Chicken Keel Bending

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Bone health is particularly important for high-yielding commercial layer chickens. The keel of poultry is an extension of the abdomen side of the sternum along the sagittal plane and is one of the most important bones.

Identification of a candidate gene for a QTL for spikelet number per spike on wheat chromosome arm 7AL by high-resolution genetic mapping. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Key messageA high-resolution genetic map combined with haplotype analyses identified a wheat ortholog of rice gene APO1 as the best candidate gene for a 7AL locus affecting spikelet number per spike.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Polymorphisms on SSC15q21-q26 Containing QTL for reproduction in Swine and its association with litter size

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2009
Several quantitative trait loci (QTL) for important reproductive traits (ovulation rate) have been identified on the porcine chromosome 15 (SSC15). To assist in the selection of positional candidate swine genes for these QTL on SSC15, twenty-one genes ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Differential allelic expression of IL13 and CSF2 genes associated with asthma

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2012
An important area of genetic research is the identification of functional mechanisms in polymorphisms associated with diseases. A highly relevant functional mechanism is the influence of polymorphisms on gene expression levels (differential allelic ...

Effects of L-Leu-L-Leu peptide on growth, proliferation, and apoptosis in broiler intestinal epithelial cells

open access: yesPoultry Science
: Small peptides are nutrients and bioactive molecules that have dual regulatory effects on nutrition and physiology. They are of great significance for maintaining the intestinal health and production performance of broilers.
