Effects of Solvent Concentration on Refining (Degumming, Dewaxing, and Deacidification) of Canola Oil Using Membrane Filtration [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 2023
Miscellas of canola were obtained by mixing its crude oil with hexane solvent at 80:20 and 70:30 ratios. Then, 16.1 M of phosphoric acid and 6.92 M of sodium hydroxide were mixed with the resulting micelles at 0.3% (w/w for degumming) and 13% (w/w for ...

Fruit and Vegetable Peels as Alternative Feed for Sustainable Poultry Production: A Solution for Small-Scale Farms in Central and Southern Ethiopia. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
Fruit and vegetable peels were evaluated as alternative feed resources for small‐scale poultry production in central and southern Ethiopia. Survey data from 360 households and laboratory analyses showed that potato peel had the highest metabolizable energy and crude protein, while pumpkin peel exhibited the highest overall nutritional value.

Characterizing Origin of Differences in Chemical Composition, Rumen Degradability, Intestinal Digestibility and Amino Acid Profile of Traditional Beer Brewing Byproducts. [PDF]

open access: yesFood Sci Nutr
This study evaluated the effects of heat treatment and cereal type to produce tella (a traditional Ethiopian household beer) on crude protein (CP) and amino acid (AA) rumen degradability and intestinal digestibility of traditional beer brewing byproduct (atella). Temperature differences in preparation of tella didn't affect rumen CP/AA degradation. Low‐

Effects of fermentation and enzymatic treatment on phenolic compounds and soluble proteins in oil press cakes of canola (Brassica napus)

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2023
To develop novel processes for valorizing agro-industry side-streams, canola (Brassica napus) oil press cakes (CPC) were treated with lactic acid bacteria, carbohydrase, and protease. Altogether 29 protein-rich liquid fractions were obtained, of which the composition was analyzed using chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods. A clear association

Fertilizer source and soil properties affect soil test phosphorus and relationships with phosphorus losses in snowmelt runoff. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Environ Qual
Abstract Plant‐available soil extractable P is used for making P fertilizer recommendations and can be helpful in assessing P loss potential in surface runoff water. Current efforts to relate soil test P (STP) to soluble P concentration in snowmelt surface runoff in the Canadian Prairie Pothole Region do not account for the relative solubility of the P
