Relationship between different subpopulations of circulating CD4+ T lymphocytes and microvascular or systemic oxidative stress in humans

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2017
Background and objective: Different components of the immune system, including innate and adaptive immunity (T effector lymphocytes and T regulatory lymphocytes – TREGs) may be involved in the development of hypertension, vascular injury and inflammation.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Deep learning-based classification of the capillary ultrastructure in human skeletal muscles

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences
BackgroundCapillary ultrastructure in human skeletal muscles is dynamic and prone to alterations in response to many stimuli, e.g., systemic pathologies such as diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension.

Engineering of a complex bone tissue model with endothelialised channels and capillary-like networks [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials, 2018
In engineering of tissue analogues, upscaling to clinically-relevant sized constructs remains a significant challenge. The successful integration of a vascular network throughout the engineered tissue is anticipated to overcome the lack of nutrient and ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

THE CAPILLARY PATTERN IN HUMAN MASSETER MUSCLE DURING AGEING

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2013
The effect of ageing on the capillary network in skeletal muscles has produced conflicting results in both, human and animals studies. Some of the inconsistencies are due to non-comparable and biased methods that were applied on thin transversal sections,

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Telephone-cord instabilities in thin smectic capillaries

open access: yes, 2004
Telephone-cord patterns have been recently observed in smectic liquid crystal capillaries. In this paper we analyse the effects that may induce them. As long as the capillary keeps its linear shape, we show that a nonzero chiral cholesteric pitch favors ...

Scale-up of electrospray atomization using linear arrays of Taylor cones [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Linear arrays of Taylor cones were established on capillary electrode tubes opposite a slotted flat plate counterelectrode to investigate the feasibility of increasing the liquid throughput rate in electrospray atomizers.

GPIHBP1 Is Responsible for the Entry of Lipoprotein Lipase into Capillaries

open access: yesCell Metabolism, 2010
SUMMARY The lipolytic processing of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins by lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the central event in plasma lipid metabolism, providing lipids for storage in adipose tissue and fuel for vital organs such as the heart. LPL is synthesized
