Hepatitis B Core Protein Capsids

2020
Non-enveloped Nackednaviridae and enveloped hepadnaviridae both have capsids that are formed by related small proteins which evolved more than 430 Mya. In Hepatitis B virus, which belongs to the enveloped hepadnaviridae, this small protein is termed Hepatitis B core protein (Hbc).

Formation of empty B19 parvovirus capsids by the truncated minor capsid protein

Journal of Virology, 1994
We previously reported that empty capsids of B19 parvovirus were formed by the major capsid protein (VP2) alone expressed in a baculovirus system, but the minor capsid protein (VP1), longer by 227 amino acids, alone did not form empty capsids. We report here further investigations of the constraints on capsid formation by truncated versions of VP1 ...

Role of Capsid Proteins

2008
Coat proteins (CPs) of all plant viruses have an early function in disassembly of parental virus and a late function in assembly of progeny virus. Depending on the virus, however, CPs may play a role in many steps of the infection cycle in between these early and late functions.

A minor capsid protein P30 is essential for bacteriophage PRD1 capsid assembly

Journal of Molecular Biology, 2001
Bacteriophage PRD1 is a double-stranded DNA virus infecting Gram-negative hosts. It has a membrane component located in the interior of the isometric capsid. In addition to the major capsid protein P3, the capsid contains a 9 kDa protein P30. Protein P30 is proposed to be located between the adjacent facets of the icosahedral capsid and is required for

Capsid Protein Diversity among Norwalk-like Viruses

Virus Genes, 2000
We have determined the complete capsid gene sequence of 20 Norwalk-like viruses (NLVs) collected predominantly from outbreaks in the UK between 1989 and 1996. These comprised nine genogroup I and eleven genogroup II strains. Phylogenetic analysis of these and 15 published sequences suggest seven genomic sub-groups within genogroup I, including three ...

Endocytosis of adenovirus and adenovirus capsid proteins

Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 2003
Key proteins of the icosahedral-shaped adenovirus (Ad) capsid mediate infection, and interact with cellular proteins to coordinate stepwise events of cell entry that produce successful gene transfer. Infection is mediated predominantly by the penton and fiber capsid proteins. The fiber initiates cell binding while the penton binds integrin coreceptors,

Antigenicity and immunogenicity of poliovirus capsid proteins.

Developments in biological standardization, 1984
Poliovirus capsid proteins (VP's) were isolated by DEAE-Sepharose chromatography in the presence of RNA-se and 9 M urea or by preparative SDS-polyacrylamide gelelectrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). With the first method, several, but not all, capsid proteins, from the three different virus types could be isolated in pure form, probably because of incomplete ...
