Objective Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is relatively uncommon because of the lower fibrotic burden and the predominance of vascular complications. In vitro observations and clinical data from transplanted patients suggest a protective effect of MMF on endothelial function.

Sacubitril Ameliorates Cardiac Fibrosis Through Inhibiting TRPM7 Channel
Heart failure caused by cardiac fibrosis has become a major challenge of public health worldwide. Cardiomyocyte programmed cell death (PCD) and activation of fibroblasts are crucial pathological features, both of which are associated with aberrant Ca2 ...

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Immunosuppressive Drug Use in Limited Systemic Sclerosis: An International Survey
Objective Current guidelines recommend immunosuppressive treatment for diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis but are less clear on their use in limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) in the absence of internal organ complications. We conducted an international survey to understand current immunosuppressive drug prescribing patterns in lcSSc ...

MicroRNA‐130a, a Potential Antifibrotic Target in Cardiac Fibrosis
BackgroundCardiac fibrosis occurs because of disruption of the extracellular matrix network leading to myocardial dysfunction. Angiotensin II has been implicated in the development of cardiac fibrosis.

The Gut–Heart Axis in Systemic Sclerosis: Evidence From a Large Prospective Early Disease Cohort
Objective Cardiac involvement significantly impacts prognosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc), highlighting the need for early risk stratification. Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are common and often manifest early. Emerging data suggest a link between GI and cardiac manifestations, possibly through shared mechanisms like dysautonomia.

Background. Inflammation is a critical factor in the development and progression of myocardial infarction and cardiac fibrosis. Thymosin β4 (Tβ4) alleviates the disease process via protective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Although Tβ4 has

Angiotensin II and Cardiac Fibrosis
The renin-angiotensin system has been linked to the pathogenesis of cardiac fibrosis through the use of experimental animal models and by clinical studies. This review emphasizes recent findings implicating the direct action of angiotensin II on cardiac cell types, particularly the cardiac fibroblast, as a causative factor in the development of cardiac

Cardiac fibrosis in oncologic therapies
Cardiotoxicity, or the development of unwarranted cardiovascular side-effects of oncologic therapies, can involve all aspects of cardiovascular disease. The development of cardiac fibrosis is a dreaded complication that leads to cardiac mechanical dysfunction, tachyarrhythmias, and an increase in cardiovascular mortality.

Distinct Systemic Sclerosis Phenotypes Related to Ethnicity: An Opportunity to Personalize Care?
Objective The objective is to describe and compare demographic, clinical, and serological characteristics of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) according to ethnic background. Methods Participants enrolled in the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group cohort who self‐identified to a single ethnicity group were included.
