Cardiac‐Derived ECM Microspheres for Enhanced hiPSC‐CMs Maturation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cardiac extracellular matrix microspheres derived from decellularized porcine heart provide a biomimetic 3D microenvironment for human induced pluripotent stem cell–derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC‐CMs). This platform supports short‐ and long‐term culture, enhances structural organization, and promotes electrophysiological and functional maturation of ...

Does Disruption of Optic Atrophy-1 (OPA1) Contribute to Cell Death in HL-1 Cardiomyocytes Subjected to Lethal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury?

open access: yesCells, 2022
Disruption of mitochondrial structure/function is well-recognized to be a determinant of cell death in cardiomyocytes subjected to lethal episodes of ischemia-reperfusion (IR). However, the precise mitochondrial event(s) that precipitate lethal IR injury

Diabetic Cardiovascular Disease Induced by Oxidative Stress. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). DM can lead to multiple cardiovascular complications, including coronary artery disease (CAD), cardiac hypertrophy, and heart failure

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

Role of PDE4 Family in Cardiomyocyte Physiology and Heart Failure

open access: yesCells
Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) is a key regulator of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) signalling in cardiomyocytes, controlling contractility, calcium handling, and hypertrophic responses. PDE4 provides spatial and temporal precision to cAMP signalling,

New Tricks with Old Dogs: Computational Identification and Experimental Validation of New miRNA–mRNA Regulation in hiPSC-CMs

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) have become a valuable widespread in vitro model to study cardiac disease.

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Role of glucocorticoid receptor expression in Chronic Chagas Cardiomyopathy: implications for inflammation and cardiac hypertrophy

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
IntroductionChronic Chagasic Cardiomyopathy (CCC) has an infectious and inflammatory nature. Recent data also suggest an association with altered regulation of glucocorticoid (GC)-mediated circuits failing to control systemic inflammation.
