Role of acidic residues as substrate determinants for casein kinase I

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1991
Sites phosphorylated by casein kinase I have been characterized by the presence of acidic amino acids NH2-terminal to the modified residue. Recently, phosphoserine was shown to be a particularly effective determinant for casein kinase I action when present in the motif -S(P)-X-X-S- (Flotow, H., Graves, P. R., Wang, A., Fiol, C. Remodelling the tumour microenvironment and beyond: ERO1A as a multifaceted regulator and emerging therapeutic target in cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
ERO1A exhibits oncogenic functions, including promoting tumour progression, metastasis, epithelial‒mesenchymal transition, angiogenesis, immune evasion and metabolic reprogramming. ERO1A is also identified as a diagnostic biomarker and a factor contributing to therapy resistance (chemotherapy and immunotherapy).

Osimertinib Resistance in EGFR‐Mutated Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2026.
This review illustrates the key mechanisms of osimertinib resistance in EGFR‑mutant NSCLC, including EGFR‑dependent mutations, bypass pathway activation, and SMARCA4‑mediated epigenetic regulation. We also summarize emerging targeted therapies and future perspectives to overcome EGFR‑TKI resistance.

PhD

open access: yes, 2007
dissertationCasein kinase I epsilon (CKI?) and casein kinase I delta (CKI?) are members of the CKI serine/threonine protein kinase family. These two highly-related kinases are ubiquitously expressed in mammalian tissues and are implicated in multiple ...

Strategic Fluorination to Achieve a Potent, Selective, Metabolically Stable, and Orally Bioavailable Inhibitor of CSNK2

open access: yesMolecules
The host kinase casein kinase 2 (CSNK2) has been proposed to be an antiviral target against β-coronaviral infection. To pharmacologically validate CSNK2 as a drug target in vivo, potent and selective CSNK2 inhibitors with good pharmacokinetic properties ...

Betaine Promotes Milk Protein Synthesis via Alleviating Oxidative Stress Caused by NEFA in Mammary Epithelial Cells of Dairy Cows

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
Betaine alleviated NEFA‐induced oxidative stress, which served as a central mechanistic link between fatty liver and mammary dysfunction, and concurrently improved milk protein synthesis via regulation of the Nrf2‐JAK2/STAT5/mTOR axis. ABSTRACT Background Fatty liver is highly prevalent in dairy cows and poses a significant challenge to the dairy ...

Casein Kinase I Transduces WNT Signals

open access: yes, 2005
Wnt signaling controls a diverse array of processes including cell growth, oncogenesis, and development. Components of the Wnt cascade are altered in several human cancers including colon cancers and melanomas.
